I was a weight loss consultant for 7 years and have experience in a rehab for alcohol and drug addiction.
Freedom is that time in space when you are allowed to be truly yourself – a time to do what you want, when you want it and not be shackled by others agenda’s. This singular word is extremely precious and valuable to me because there have been times when I felt I had no freedom. My aim is to work with you in a holistic way, My training allows me to tailor make the therapy to you at any individual time. I work with a variety of issues and believe that everyone has the capability for change. Come and experience the lovely purpose built log cabin, a private space nestled amongst trees with a log burner and a cosy, homely feel.

Hello and welcome. I am a Transactional Analysis (TA) psychotherapist and clinical psychologist, integrating TA with body psychotherapy and Internal Family Systems (IFS). I work both individually and in groups, specializing in eating disorders (anorexia, bulimia, and binge-eating disorder). Many people come to therapy after trying numerous behavioral approaches—diet plans, discipline, exercise—with little lasting change. This makes sense, as eating disorders are not issues of willpower but of emotional regulation; the behaviors are symptoms, not the root.

At times, we can feel overwhelmed by the events and demands facing us. Life can feel daunting, and we can lose trust in ourselves to find a way forward. We can neglect ourselves and ignore areas of our lives that are painful. We may notice beliefs and habits we are stuck with that are holding us back from living life fully. Psychotherapy can help unravel the patterns we are caught in. Learning to pay attention to ourselves in a supportive space can help us to shift our perspective and find new directions. We can develop a compassionate relationship with ourselves that will help generate new energy to overcome our obstacles.

People who are finding every day a real struggle with strong, even overwhelming feelings of depression, anxiety, stress, anger. At the other end of the spectrum are some who may have feelings of dissatisfaction a sense that they are not getting all they want in their lives. I believe that all of us want to strive to be happier and more fulfilled than we currently are. We want to feel a connection with other people and to have a sense of well being and connection with the world around us.

In the a world where weight loss jabs are taking off, i believe in getting to the root cause of the issue and tackling the issue head on.
I understand how emotional eating can take over—it was part of my own journey too. Training as a therapist helped me not only overcome these struggles, but also learn how to support others in finding freedom from them. I believe food isn’t the problem—it’s often a way of coping with deeper feelings. Together, we can explore the root causes in a safe and supportive space. I work integratively, using CBT, Person-Centred, and Psychodynamic approaches, adapting to your unique needs. Whether you want practical tools to manage urges or space to explore what’s driving them, we’ll move at your pace. You don’t have to go through this alone

We all need extra support from time to time. For some people they have difficult or distressing thoughts and emotions, a stuck feeling may have developed over a period of time, or maybe a significant life experience may prompt the need to talk in therapy.

My practice is built on the fundamental understanding that each person's journey is unique, requiring a tailored approach that draws from diverse therapeutic traditions and techniques. I work collaboratively with you to find the methods that resonate most deeply with your experiences, values, and goals. Rather than fitting clients into predetermined models, I adapt my approach to honour your individual story and needs.

What is the relationship between weight management and mental health?
Mental health can be significantly influenced by one's physical health, so overall improvements in one's quality of life as a result of improved physical functioning from weight loss can have an overall positive impact on an individual's mental health and allow them to engage more readily in everyday activities. In addition, many strategies used to manage weight, such as exercise and maintaining a healthy diet, are also associated with reducing the symptoms of common mental health conditions, such as anxiety or depression. Individuals may also benefit from the improved self-esteem and self-efficacy that can come with successful weight management.

What is the psychological approach to losing weight?
While there are no specific therapy modalities specifically for weight loss, common psychological therapies can be highly effective in helping clients make lasting lifestyle changes. This may be called the "psychological approach" to weight loss because it does not rely on physical interventions, such as medication or weight loss surgery, to help clients lose weight. Weight loss counselling can be used in addition to or instead of such physical interventions. Some clients simply seek therapy to address the challenges that may accompany weight loss in general, including negative thoughts surrounding their body, disordered eating patterns, or difficulty completing daily tasks as a result of their weight challenges. In such cases, therapists will often utilise behavioural coaching or Cognitive Behavioural Therapy techniques to help clients understand how their thoughts may be influencing their diet and physical activity patterns.

What type of therapy is commonly used in weight loss counselling?
Weight loss counseling often involves a combination of therapy and psychoeducation. Common techniques used by weight loss counselors include journalling, thought diaries, and other Cognitive Behavioural Therapy strategies that encourage clients to consider how their feelings about their weight loss impact their mental health. Weight loss counsellors may also teach clients mindfulness exercises, which can be used by clients during and after eating to be more aware of physical cues from their body surrounding eating. Some clients looking for weight loss therapy may also benefit from group therapy approaches, which utilise the power of social connection and accountability to help clients adhere to their weight loss plan.

Is therapy recommended for individuals undergoing bariatric surgery?
While therapy is not a requirement for individuals undergoing bariatric surgery, many individuals undergoing weight loss surgery may benefit from seeing a counsellor. Prior to surgery, counsellors can help clients decide whether surgical weight loss is a good fit for them and assist in surgery preparation. Post-surgery, counsellors can assist clients with the psychological component of maintaining their weight loss, as well as help clients navigate any postoperative pain. Throughout the surgical process, therapists can help clients process body-image challenges that may come with dramatic changes in weight, as well as manage symptoms of anxiety or depression that may accompany the major life changes bariatric surgery can bring.
