It’s scary admitting to yourself that you need help; and that you’re struggling with whatever is causing you to feel unhappy, dysregulated or distressed. Due to stigma, people feel that they can only access therapy when they are at breaking point; when in fact you can access therapy whenever you need to. My background is in working with abuse survivors, and those who have experienced trauma. As a result I work with narcissism, depression, low self esteem, shame, loneliness, hopelessness, grief & loss, anger, self harm and suicidal feelings as well as a broad range of other factors and experiences clients bring to their sessions.

Whilst I originally trained as an Art Psychotherapist, working creatively doesn’t mean that you need to be “good at art” - it’s a chance for us to create a new, shared language with one another, which might not always rely on words when words are hard to find.
Work with me is guided by you - I’m keen to have initial conversations with potential clients to understand where you are in life, what you’re looking to achieve or explore, and what your hopes are for working with a therapist. I work with adults, teenagers, and children, both 1:1 and in group settings. I often work with clients who have faced complex life events and trauma, who are looking to make sense of their experiences in a safe and trusting therapeutic relationship. I have strong clinical experiences working with clients who have faced complex trauma, loss, and relationship difficulties, both as adults and young people.

A warm welcome. The roots of my practice stem from my belief that a caring, non-judgemental attitude in a safe space is core to nurturing mental wellbeing. I have over 20 years’ experience working as a therapist with children, young people, and adults. During this time, I have worked across a range of settings, supporting individuals facing a variety of life challenges that have led them to seek therapeutic support. These challenges include adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), domestic violence, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, and self-harm. In my work, I explore how past experiences and historical trauma may have shaped unhelpful behavioural patterns. By helping clients become more aware of these patterns, I support them in recognising, understanding, and working through them

As a Creative Arts Therapist I can help your child and or teenager to express themselves, at their own pace, through the use of art, play, clay, sand tray and other therapeutic interventions, which can have a profound effect for resolving difficult issues.
Hello, my name is Cara, I’m a Creative Arts Therapist and a qualified Clinical Supervisor. Maybe your child/teenager is acting out and you just don’t know what to do next, maybe they’ve been through a difficult experience recently or in the past and need some help processing what happened to them. I’ve worked with many children and I want to be able to offer your child a safe and confidential environment to explore what is going on for them right now They can then begin to feel better about themselves and continue to have the positive experiences from life that they deserve. Sometimes finding the right words to communicate is hard.

Neelam’s worked with a range of people who feel stuck, anxious, or weighed down by past experiences, relationships or cultural expectations. They may struggle with self-worth, identity, boundaries and long for peace, clarity and confidence. They want to understand themselves better, heal old wounds and build healthier patterns. Deep down, they’re seeking connection, to feel seen, accepted, and empowered to live authentically, free from guilt or fear, with a stronger sense of self and emotional balance.

Have you ever felt like people just didn’t get you — maybe because you’re LGBTQ+, neurodivergent, or you’ve experienced CEN, bullying or abuse? It can be really isolating, and it makes sense if that’s left you feeling anxious, low, or just totally overwhelmed. I often work with people living with the long-term impacts of neglect, domestic abuse, or trauma — including those still finding their way out. I am experienced in supporting survivors of many forms of abuse, including spiritual abuse, coercive control, complex trauma, and dissociation, including Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID). I also welcome their allies for support.

We will work together to create a trusting, open space where you can explore any issues you are experiencing, at a pace that suits you. I tailor counselling techniques to meet your individual needs so that you are able to gain insight and understanding into your patterns of thinking, feeling & behaviour. Whilst increasing your awareness, I will support you to make any changes you feel will benefit you, as well as come to terms with anything that cannot be changed and support you to move forward.

As part of my journey I have completed additional training in suicide awareness, Trauma, working outdoors and have a distinction in an art therapy course.
You may be feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or weighed down by grief or self-doubt. Perhaps you’ve been carrying things alone and are looking for a space where you can finally feel heard and understood. Many of my clients want to make sense of their experiences, regain confidence, and reconnect with the parts of themselves they’ve lost along the way. Together, we can explore what matters to you, helping you move forward with greater clarity, self-acceptance, and a renewed sense of hope.

Perhaps you've been told you are too sensitive, too much, or not enough. Perhaps you've spent so long adjusting yourself to keep the peace that you're no longer quite sure who you are. Or perhaps you're a counsellor carrying the weight of complex client work and longing for supervision that genuinely meets the depth of what you bring. I am a nurse, midwife and counsellor with many years of clinical experience, and I offer both therapy and clinical supervision. I have spent my whole career sitting with people in some of life's most difficult moments; I do not shy away from the hard stuff and will meet you warmly wherever you are.

I understand that life can be overwhelming, but I’m here to guide you through those obstacles. My goal is to help you understand yourself more deeply through your journey with me, and get you back on track. My sessions are designed to unravel painful issues and provide you with effective tools to be able to heal. Taking action creates a sense of liberation and a feeling of letting go of the despair associated with insignificance and meaningless. It creates a feeling of growth and promotes the embracing of life and to exist with wonder and curiosity. I've been honoured to be endorsed by Her Grace the Duchess of Rutland and Source.

How does art therapy work?
The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.

Does art therapy help with trauma?
Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.

How long does art therapy last?
The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.

What are the limitations of art therapy?
Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioural therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
