Topics and concerns that have been explored include self esteem, worries, anxiety, low mood, self harm, and identity, amongst others.
For the past 5 years, this has been within counselling and psychotherapy, as I’ve worked alongside young people to explore their current situations and experiences, helping to identify concerns and bring about any changes they hope for.

At times, we can feel overwhelmed by the events and demands facing us. Life can feel daunting, and we can lose trust in ourselves to find a way forward. We can neglect ourselves and ignore areas of our lives that are painful. We may notice beliefs and habits we are stuck with that are holding us back from living life fully. Psychotherapy can help unravel the patterns we are caught in. Learning to pay attention to ourselves in a supportive space can help us to shift our perspective and find new directions. We can develop a compassionate relationship with ourselves that will help generate new energy to overcome our obstacles.

Hi I’m Paula I qualified with a Masters in Counselling Psychotherapy in 2017. Since then, I’ve also trained in Couples Counselling. My basis of therapy is Person Centred, which means that I take cues from you to guide the process, so that there is no hurry to talk about things until you feel ready. My all-round approach is integrative as I incorporate connection with your mind, body and spirit into our Talking Therapy sessions. Perhaps your first query is; “Do I need Counselling?”. It’s a very common thought. Whether you are feeling confused, unsure, stuck, overflowing with emotions or numb, you are now in the right place.

I believe that people are endlessly creative... Despite damaging childhoods, difficult life experiences, the most painful losses and challenges we face living in an increasingly complex world, we are all capable of turning our lives around for the better. With courage and the right kind of help, our natural inborn capacity for growth is brought to light. The process of making life better is just as worthwhile as the outcome. Somehow the whole process of confronting and solving the apparently insurmountable problems that bring us to therapy can also bring renewed meaning and poignancy into our lives.

Hi, my name is Jeanette. Life can be challenging, difficult & stressful at times, affecting how we feel emotionally. We can become anxious, worried, stressed, depressed or just generally feel overwhelmed. In order to manage how we are feeling, we can develop unhelpful thinking & behaviours which can hinder our growth, leading to us becoming stuck in vicious cycles. By understanding & recognising our unhelpful thinking & behaviours we can start to look at ways to modify these to improve how we feel. Therapy can help you gain control over thoughts & behaviours; develop healthier coping strategies; build self-confidence & resilience.

Welcome to Therapy with Rosie, a trauma informed Psychotherapy practise built on years of experience working within mental health. I have worked with eating difficulties and disorders for 13+ years, alongside self harm, low mood, anxiety, intrapersonal and interpersonal issues. An integrative approach means that I employ knowledge and experience of a range of counselling theories, and can tailor the sessions according to your needs. For example, you may want to understand your thoughts and how these relate to your beliefs, but also process trauma. We would be able to give space to both without being confined to one way of working.

Self Esteem Counsellors

When should a person seek therapy for low self-esteem?

When self-esteem problems begin to disrupt the healthy daily functioning of an individual, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not engaging with friends for fear of being judged, not completing work assignments because they don’t think they’re capable, or not finding romantic love because they don’t feel they’re worthy of it, a therapist may be able to help.

What are the signs of low self-esteem?

Low self-esteem is a common issue that can affect a person's mental and emotional well-being. Some common signs of low self-esteem include negative self-talk, perfectionism, social anxiety, difficulty making decisions, an inability to set boundaries, people-pleasing, and others. A lack of belief in oneself or one’s abilities and a feeling of not being worthy or deserving underlie most of these characteristics.

What causes low self-esteem?

Feelings of low self-worth can begin in childhood or adulthood. Being raised by a highly critical parent or growing up feeling constant disapproval can stay with a person well into adulthood. Specific issues in adulthood may also be a cause of low self-esteem. An unhappy relationship, a dysfunctional work or school experience can impact a person’s feelings of self-worth.

How can therapy improve self-esteem?

Therapists can help identify negative thought patterns that keep the client stuck in a loop of destructive self-talk and develop coping skills to change the voice in their head. A therapist can help with goal-setting, so that clients are better able to stay on task and build confidence from successfully completing work they’re proud of. Coaching a client on how to better communicate can improve relationships. These skills can result in someone with low self-esteem feeling empowered and living with less fear.
