Hello, I am Tina and I understand how challenging life can be especially if we have others relying on us, be it family, friends or colleagues. Life events can trigger changes to our relationships or career, leaving us feeling lost, perhaps your past is still defining you, or maybe life hasn’t turned out the way you had hoped. Sometimes we just lose ourselves and our direction. It can be difficult to share these feelings with family and friends - this is where I can offer you a warm, non-judgmental, safe space to explore and navigate any issues you are experiencing.

Are you struggling with uncomfortable feelings or unease with: yourself, others, society, or work? Maybe this is related to your relationship with yourself including: worry, stress, anxiety, and guilt. Possibly you are feeling stuck, depressed, or encountering uncomfortable feelings. Perhaps it' s the experience of loss about a dear one or a valued part of yourself, or losing your relationship with others, or when family issues drive a desire to explore endings and possibly moving on. Are you searching for that trained listener with whom you can relax and say and explore what is frustrating you in your search for peace of mind.

It is not at all unusual for any of us to experience a sense of anxiety or depression due to a life event that has caused us to feel “disconnected,” or simply “overwhelmed.” We might experience a bereavement or loss (a job, a relationship, a marriage); or issues may arise related to dating, getting married, or ageing and retirement. Alternatively, we might feel unable to be “ourselves,” or have the desire to nurture other aspects of our personality that seem underdeveloped: a lack of confidence to take risks and engage life, an ability to slow down, or an ability to be honest about our feelings with others. Psyhotherapy can help.

My approach to therapy is quite simple, if you are struggling with psychological or bodily issues you will want to feel safe in exploring them. I offer a place of safety and confidentiality to find meaning to these difficulties. The therapeutic relationship we develop will allow you to feel heard and for you to express aspects of yourself that have been hidden or you don’t feel great about. You might struggle in relationships or you are using less than helpful ways to cope. You might be suffering in silence or appear to others to be fine but your not. Talking in confidence without judgement can often alleviate some of this.

I endeavour to provide a safe, comfortable, quiet space for clients to explore sensitive issues. The relationship between myself and the client is at the heart of my approach. I believe that being with a client and offering a compassionate holding presence while they share their story is essential to establish a therapeutic working alliance before offering insight and psycho education. I adapt my approach to suit the needs of each client and integrate suitable interventions or tools work with whatever issue the client is presenting.

Space to Talk, Time to Heal, Strength to Grow. Life events can trigger emotions that are difficult to understand or express. Sudden trauma, redundancy, a business failure, a relationship breakdown, bereavement, abuse, bullying & harassment, or struggles with gender & sexual identity. The list is endless and is as individual as us. These can prevent clear thinking and create worries or reactions, which can go on to cause anxiety, shame, confusion, or possible feelings of guilt that are hard to recognise or cope with. They may also cause a reaction of self-destruction, self-harm, eating disorders, drinking, drug use and other issues.

Are you burned out and overwhelmed? I help adult professionals manage stress and anxiety through talking therapy, presence practice and mindfulness. We can all experience burn out at some point. It's normal and it's nature's way of telling us to slow down. We don't always have the luxury of slowing down but we can learn to feel more connected to ourselves and others.

Men's Issues Counsellors

Is therapy for men different than it is for women?

Therapeutic treatments and types are the same for men as they are for women, with the same protocols followed and the same strategies employed. Discussing one’s feelings and emotions is an integral part of most therapies, and some men find doing so more challenging. Therapists can help clients through the process; some specialize in treating men for this reason.

How do you encourage a man to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either himself or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can men prepare for therapy?

Men can prepare for therapy by approaching the process with an open mind, being willing to talk about their challenges, and giving treatment the time to work. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. It can be useful for men who struggle to recall their emotional states to write down notes between sessions about their response to a given event or how they were feeling at a particular time.

What should men know about the process of therapy?

One of the most common reasons men don’t seek therapy is the notion that there’s something wrong with them if they do. Men should know that just because they’re seeking therapy doesn’t mean they’re mentally ill or damaged in some way. In the same way people work on their bodies through exercise or a craft through practice, therapy can be a way to improve the mental and emotional skills needed to be productive and effective partners, employees, and people in all realms of life.
