Life is challenging for all of us. Sometimes we hit a trigger and we feel in crisis. Often talking to friends and family is difficult, yet we still need a safe, confidential space to off load our feelings. Counselling gives us that time and space to explore our feelings, free from any judgement. It helps to build resilience and to identify any negative behaviour and thought patterns that may be making life more difficult for us. It helps us to develop a greater self awareness of what is working and not working for us in both personal and professional relationships. It doesn't solve everything but it helps to give a greater choice.

I've been where you are now, looking for a therapist and not sure who to choose! Deciding to have therapy and choosing who to embark on the journey with can be a daunting prospect. But, you’ve taking the first step to sharing your difficulties and that’s a great start. Having had my own therapy I know how important it is to find the right therapist. I offer a safe, welcoming space for you to share what is happening for you. I won’t judge or tell you to do things. I will support you with the choices you make. I offer appointments from 8am to 8pm and may be available at short notice.

I am an accredited therapist with 25 + years experience of working in the field of counselling and 14 years experience of working in private practice with individuals and couples. I offer a safe and confidential place where you and your concerns are provided the time and space to be voiced, heard and for you to feel understood. You may find it incredibly difficult to describe how you feel, yet have a sense that something is missing or feels just quite not right. You may be experiencing change, the emotional pain of losses and struggles of life.

I work mainly with school aged children who are struggling to manage their emotions and behaviours at home and in school which may be due to many outside influences, early years traumas, environmental difficulties etc. Clients come to Play Therapy sessions to find a safe, supportive space where they can use their natural language of Play to work through their difficulties, in a non-judgemental, child-led environment, gaining understanding of their difficulties and finding ways to manage these for a more settled and healthier future.

I can assist you in gaining insight & understanding into your history to help you make clearer decisions about your future. As we work together to understand the way you are, the easier it will be for you to make decisions to make your life, career and relationships happier, more balanced and more empowered. In therapy you will have a unique chance to be authentic without self-censorship or consideration of others; where the focus is solely on you. As there are so few chances to encounter this kind of interaction, this acts as a powerful catalyst for change and transformation.

Psychodynamic
psychotherapeutic counselling has a distinct focus on events which have troubled us in the past, although we might not have awareness of them, and continue to trouble us in the present often through repeated patterns. There might not be any defined areas of concern for clients, and issues can be deep-seated; however, the therapeutic relationship aims to bring these aspects into consciousness in a manageable way so that they may be worked through safely. While
psychodynamic
psychotherapeutic counselling is often open-ended and can span several years, short courses of six months or less have also shown to be effective.

Thanks for looking at my profile. I work with a broad range of clients, and understand that no two clients are the same. I tailor and specialise my clinical work to meet the specific needs and goals of each individual. I'm interested in the subconscious, how we may adopt coping strategies in order to avoid pain, and how this in turn may exacerbate pain further. I'm also interested in how addictive behaviours may develop, and how I can pick apart addictive processes and help to modify them into more constructive strategies. I have specific interest in chronic pain/conditions, and have a variety of strategies to help in this area.

Often people wonder how counselling or talking to someone can help. When you see a Counsellor/Therapist, you will have a consistency and continuity of a professional relationship, which provides you a space where you are being properly listened to. This can then allow you to think, and get a clear idea of what is going on for you. Together with your Counsellor/Therapist you can begin to explore and unpack your ideas, views, opinions, etc. This could lead you to more clarity and you may become more mindful of yourself.

Psychodynamic
psychotherapy provides an opportunity to explore our life within the context of a two person relationship.
Difficulties addressed in therapy can include anxiety, fear, depression, sadness, loneliness, stress, relational breakdowns or suicidal feelings. Therapy may be challenging at times but we can get to a point where staying stuck hurts more than risking growth.

Are you struggling with issues and can't see which way to turn? Feeling overwhelmed? Facing life-changing situations? I am a Psychotherapeutic Counsellor, working in private practice providing face-to-face, telephone and online individual counselling. Counselling provides a safe and confidential space into which you can bring issues which may be leaving you struggling, anxious and conflicted. Talking to someone outside your immediate circle, who can offer an objective perspective on your situation, can help you to feel heard, recognise patterns of behaviour, and work things through without fear of reprisal, judgement or guilt.

You may be a woman who is struggling with depression, relationship problems, anxiety, low self-esteem, or simply a sense of emptiness. You may feel trapped in, or emerging from, an abusive relationship. You may have experienced a loss recently- death of a loved one, divorce, loss of a job, even ageing poses its own special challenges. I specialise in working with women in particular, including LGBGT clients, by telephone, video link, and online. I am able to be flexible in the way I work, and combine different methods to suit my clients. Working by telephone or online can be very helpful to clients who are unable to travel.

We all have times when life seems challenging or our past catches up with us. This can be an overwhelming and isolating experience and I believe that to navigate through these periods, we need to find a space for ourselves and a supportive, open and constructive setting. Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?
Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.
How long does psychodynamic therapy last?
Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.
Does psychodynamic therapy work?
Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.
What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?
Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
