Life is challenging for all of us. Sometimes we hit a trigger and we feel in crisis. Often talking to friends and family is difficult, yet we still need a safe, confidential space to off load our feelings. Counselling gives us that time and space to explore our feelings, free from any judgement. It helps to build resilience and to identify any negative behaviour and thought patterns that may be making life more difficult for us. It helps us to develop a greater self awareness of what is working and not working for us in both personal and professional relationships. It doesn't solve everything but it helps to give a greater choice.

I can assist you in gaining insight & understanding into your history to help you make clearer decisions about your future. As we work together to understand the way you are, the easier it will be for you to make decisions to make your life, career and relationships happier, more balanced and more empowered. In therapy you will have a unique chance to be authentic without self-censorship or consideration of others; where the focus is solely on you. As there are so few chances to encounter this kind of interaction, this acts as a powerful catalyst for change and transformation.

Issues and conditions I work with most often include Generalised Anxiety, Social Anxiety, Health Anxiety, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Depression, Panic, low self-esteem, procrastination and relapse prevention.
Hello! I am an NHS-trained and BABCP-accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapist offering a supportive and personalised approach to better understand and manage the automatic (default) thoughts and behaviours that may be keeping you ‘stuck’ in cycles that make you feel anxious, frustrated or low. We would work with examples from your daily life, to understand how the way you think affects how you feel and respond, and consider what you may want to try doing differently to improve how you feel and how you interact with others.

I can help with difficulties like anxiety & panic, PTSD, depression, postpartum psychosis, OCD, phobias and tokophobia - fear of pregnancy/birth - and trauma (earlier life or birth trauma) & pregnancy loss.
As a therapist and midwife I understand the barriers you might feel asking for help during the perinatal period (pregnancy, birth or postnatally). Many people struggle to talk about their anxiety, depression or doubts and worries about being a parent. You might feel judged or that you have failed in some way and there can be a real sense of pressure to feel positive throughout, making it sometimes feel really hard to admit you are struggling, so I understand just how significant asking for help is. Reaching out is positive and is the first step towards recovery - of your sense of self, your self worth and your wellbeing.

It's Time For You! Are you always there for everyone else, and now need someone to be there for you? Then you have come to the right place! We all need help sometimes, and taking the first step of asking for help is often the hardest. I know, because I’ve been there too. You need time for yourself. How can you be there for others if you are feeling burnt-out? Have you suffered a loss or bereavement? Are you feeling low and anxious? Whatever difficulties you are facing, my job is not to diagnose you, give you advice, or tell you how to fix things. My job is to be by your side as we explore ways to help you find your own answers.

I help people rediscover their true self when they have become lost. Losing your sense of self can appear in many forms and for many reasons. For example, parenthood, work issues, bereavement, relationships, childhood experience, abuse, traumatic experiences and retirement a few situations which can leave people feeling that they have lost a sense of who they are. If you’ve found yourself questioning your values, your self-worth, your path in life, or the answer to the question, “Who am I?” you may be struggling with something which is often able to be resolved through the self-exploration which counselling & therapy provides.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Counsellors

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine, fluoxetine, and sertraline, among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
