Thank you for checking me out. Like life, it can be difficult to make the right choices. I have been a Samaritan for over 25 years and worked for Cruse Bereavement, so I really do know how to help people struggling with most forms of trauma; relationship problems; anxiety and anger. Or struggling with career progression, bullying and perhaps feeling left out from others. I can help you. I see clients fact-to-face in a dedicated therapy room, not part of a house, so is confidential and free from interruptions. It has wheel-chair access and parking. Or see me on-line if you prefer

I offer a safe, confidential setting where you can talk. I will always strive to make sure that the things we talk about & the pace of our conversations are acceptable to you, & that you have active control over this. I have worked with people in distress or seeking change for almost twenty years. In my view, one of the absolute foundations to doing this well is listening without judgement & then bringing warmth, gentleness & curiosity to the conversations that follow. If you are lonely, isolated or ashamed, I will safely & reliably offer you connection, care, & acceptance, as we work towards your goals.

Welcome. If you are feeling completely exhausted from carrying the heavy weight of life, everyone else’s expectations, walking on eggshells, or overriding your own boundaries, you are in the right place. Life transitions, hidden burnout, and old emotional loops can leave us feeling disoriented, but you do not have to navigate the fog alone.

"There is a crack in everything - that's how the light gets in" (Leonard Cohen). I love this. We all have problems, things we don't like about ourselves, things we struggle with over and over. It's part of being human, none of us are completely 'sorted'. But sometimes we feel overwhelmed, desperate, alone.... the cracks are too big, the light isn't getting in. Or we feel stuck, frustrated, exhausted, going round in circles, nothing will ever change. Perhaps you feel you can't be the real you. Maybe you feel like this a lot, or maybe it's new for you and your usual coping/support isn't working. Maybe you don't know what's wrong.

Are you in a position whereby your struggles or concerns are impacting on your day to day life? Then now could be a good time to seek some support. Often many difficulties overlap and counselling can help bring a sense of clarity by allowing you time to process, understanding, work through difficulties and overcome barriers, to live a more fulfilling life. You may be neuro-curious or have a diagnosis or traits that you want to understand and to learn about your strengths and feel empowered. You may want support with past trauma or help to work through the impact of a loved ones behaviour due to neurodivergence, addiction or trauma.

I work gently and compassionately, with individuals/couples, struggling with difficult or painful feelings, managing their emotions, and struggling to enjoy life. Communication is often an issue, as are feelings of unfairness or difficulty forming good, lasting relationships. Issues may involve partners, parents, past traumas, or inner conflict making decisions difficult. They may involve issues at work with colleagues, management or relationships. When working with couples the issues are often about unfulfilled expectations, infidelity, lack of commitment/affection, insecurity, lack of empathy, or experiences of coercion or control

Many of the people I work with have spent a long time carrying things on their own. Some have reached a point where they know something needs to change, even if they can't yet explain why. Others feel overwhelmed, stuck or disconnected from themselves, while some are facing anxiety, grief, relationship difficulties, low self-esteem or significant life changes. You don't need to arrive with all the answers. Together, we'll explore your experiences in a warm, accepting and confidential space, helping you better understand yourself and discover a way forward that feels authentic to you.

We all struggle with difficulties at times; and it can be a great relief to face them with the right help. I have 20 years’ experience as a counsellor and offer counselling to individuals in a quiet, secure space. My aim includes helping you come to a clearer understanding of what has brought you to counselling, and supporting you in finding the way forwards that feels right for you. Perhaps surprisingly, our difficulties can become a source of change and growth.

FAQ - About Therapy for Seniors
Is one ever too old for mental health therapy?
Individuals of all ages can benefit from mental health therapy. Indeed, older adults in particular may benefit from the social and psychological support a therapist can provide; the topics that older adults address in therapy may simply differ from those of younger clients. Seniors should seek out a therapist who has experience working with older individuals and who is well-versed in addressing common concerns among elderly individuals, such as depression, anxiety, loneliness, and physical mobility challenges.

How is counselling for elderly different from counselling for other age groups?
In general, counselling offers an opportunity for clients to process difficult life events and develop coping skills they can use outside of the therapy session. Therapists who specialise in working with elderly clients generally have the same framework but may place a special emphasis on specific topics, such as caregiver relationships and reducing loneliness. They may be specially equipped to deal with certain physical conditions or facilitate discussion surrounding end-of-life topics. Counselling for the elderly may also place a greater emphasis on social work-type topics to ensure that geriatric clients have access to necessary resources, such as food, a safe home environment, and healthcare.

How can therapy improve the quality of life of aging individuals?
Therapy for aging adults can greatly improve quality of life by providing an opportunity for them to process difficult emotions related to end-of-life, navigate relational or caregiver challenges, and develop coping skills for common mental health conditions, like anxiety or depression. Subsequent reductions in negative emotions and mental health disorder symptoms can make day-to-day living much more manageable for aging adults and those that care for them. The ongoing relationship with a trusted therapist can also help seniors combat loneliness and provide a sense of structure for their routine.

What are the qualities to look for in therapists who see seniors?
Seniors counsellors, like mental health counselors in general, should be kind, empathetic, skilled at listening, and knowledgeable about their particular area of expertise. Counsellors specialising in working with the senior population should be very familiar with the aging process in general and the common conditions that the elderly can face, such as dementia, depression, loneliness, and/or physical illness. Many senior counsellors are also well-equipped to help caregivers and families navigate the aging process of their loved ones, and they may draw on Interpersonal Therapy to help facilitate improved interactions between seniors and those that care for them.
