Hi my name is Wendy and I understand it can be difficult to approach someone for support especially if you are feeling overwhelmed with emotions . We all face challenges in life, some of which we can easily manage while others we find ourselves struggling with and needing greater support. No matter what difficulties you are having or how large or small it feels, I can offer you the time and place for you to explore your feelings and emotions, to find acceptance and understanding in a trusted relationship. At a pace to suit you we can work together in making the changes in your life that can help you feel more in control and at ease
I am a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist with experience of working with adults and young people. Often people find themselves experiencing difficulties, wanting to make changes and to feel happier, but can feel stuck or unsure with how or where to start. My role as a therapist is to work alongside you, by offering you support to help you make these changes. We will do this by working through the past and the present to enable us to think about how you would like things to be different. This can lead to a greater understanding of yourself and feeling more in control of your life.
I am an integrative counsellor, which means I use a combination of approaches tailored to the needs of my clients such as person centred, and CBT to examine current thoughts and feelings, as well as psychodynamic exploration of the past to help reach an understanding of the issues being faced. Each client is unique, and I welcome their thoughts about the direction in which they would like their therapy sessions to take. I am an approved therapist for Anxiety UK and am experienced in working with clients struggling with anxiety and depression. This can range from mild stress and low mood to a feeling of being completely debilitated
I like to describe the process of therapy to clients as the unpacking and re-packing of a messy suitcase. There may be things in there that have been actively avoided and possibly some things that have been forgotten about altogether. Through gentle and curious exploration, the suitcase is opened; things are taken out and safely examined. Coming face to face with that which has caused pain can be frightening but it needn't be done alone. The re-packing of the suitcase allows for the healing and acceptance of that which has been pushed away from the mind but is still stored in the body. Things will start to feel lighter and clearer.
People stay with us when alcohol, drugs, prescription drugs or addictive behaviour have become a problem in life. We believe that with the right support anyone can permanently break the addictive cycle and grow beyond addiction.
I know first hand how daunting it is to reach out for support so well done for taking that first step. I also know how beneficial therapy can be in helping you work through difficulties enabling you to work towards you’re desired goals or the life you truly deserve. Life can have many challenges causing us to experience a whole host of issues relating to anxiety, self esteem, intrusive thoughts, relationships. If you feel you can relate to the above statements reaching out could benefit you massively in moving forward in a positive way. I have a decade of experience in employment and training of working with adults and young people
It is very human to have psychological difficulties at various points in our lives. Difficult things can happen to us leaving us feeling scared and/ or low/ depressed. Society can also make us feel pressurised to look a certain way and we can feel pretty worthless if don't believe that we conform to these societal expectations. All of these can be both frightening and overwhelming, which makes it so important to have a calm, compassionate and skilful therapist to guide you towards recovery.
Life is tough for everyone at the moment especially in the aftermath of the pandemic. Everything seems so stressful and difficult and you wonder why you don't seem to cope when everyone else does. You can't make sense of what is happening either with you or your relationship. You may be anxious or fearful for the future and really fed up feeling the way you do and never getting beyond it? Would you like help to understand why you feel this way, to take back control of your thoughts and feelings and your relationships? At the end of therapy you want to feel stronger and more empowered to get on with your life.
