As an Integrative, Trauma Informed and EMDR therapist, I work with trauma processing, anxiety, depression, sexual abuse, bereavement and loss.
Sometimes life throws us challenges both through past and present experiences, which knock us off our feet and we become engulfed in uncertainty, worry and fear. It could be that we start to doubt ourselves and feel that we are not good enough or we are unable to cope, leading to anxiety and depression. Whatever you are going through, it deserves care, attention and compassion. You may be struggling to make meaning of what is going on around as you navigate life changes or have experienced traumatic events that you need some relief from. Whatever you are going through, I hope to help.

Hi, I'm Ursula. I became a therapist because I believe everyone deserves the chance to become who they were always meant to be — and sometimes we need a little support to get there. I am a Psychotherapist in Advanced Clinical Training at the Manchester Institute for Psychotherapy, working towards full accreditation. My main approach is Transactional Analysis — a relational, humanistic method that explores how our past experiences shape the way we think, feel, and relate to others today. I also draw on sensorimotor and body psychotherapy, recognising that our experiences aren't just held in our minds, but in our bodies too.

I believe there is no reason why we can't all live enjoyable, meaningful lives. I also know that if you are feeling down, anxious, or overwhelmed, it's hard to feel any joy. As a qualified Counselling Psychologist, I help people when they are feeling stuck. I draw on a range of therapeutic modalities depending on the person, but always place the therapeutic relationship at the centre of my practice. Only when we feel safe is there room to grow.

Taking the first step towards counselling can feel daunting. Perhaps you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, anxious or low, or maybe something has happened in your life that has left you struggling to make sense of how you feel. You may simply know that things don’t feel quite right and that you would like some support. Whatever has brought you here, you don’t have to work through it alone. I offer a confidential, supportive and non-judgemental space where you can slow down, talk openly and explore what is happening for you. My aim is to create a therapeutic relationship where you feel listened to, understood and accepted as you are.

I've experienced great grief & loss.
Why do we feel like we do? Maybe anxious? Maybe depressed? Maybe self-critical? Maybe not able to interact with others as we'd like and feeling like our relationships could be better? Maybe just feeling like we could be living a happier more fulfilled and engaged life? The patterns of how we feel now have been laid down in our past. Our feelings and behaviours are all there for a reason - usually in ways that somehow protected earlier versions of ourselves. In therapy we can safely and kindly explore how you are feeling now, where your feelings have come from and how we can approach life differently.

You receive a short message and immediately wonder if someone is upset with you or if you might have done something wrong. You monitor other people’s moods and adjust yourself to keep the peace. You say yes to plans when you would rather rest and take on extra work because saying no feels selfish. Afterwards, you feel tired or resentful but still worry you have let someone down. Others may see you as capable, helpful or “the strong one,” without realising how much you overthink, struggle to switch off or question whether you are good enough.

How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
