Counselling can help you work through troubling emotions, thoughts or behaviour. This might include recurring thoughts, anxiety, depression and compulsive or unwanted behaviour. Counselling can also provide a space for those who wish to explore issues from their past including childhood and how these may be impacting them today. Sometimes clients find a few sessions just having the space and time to voice their concerns helps them to clarify things and make connections. Other clients will want to look more deeply into their past and current issues and may require more sessions.

I have over 15 years of experience of counselling and psychotherapy working with people with a wide variety of issues, such as relationship issues, anxiety, stress, loss and depression . My aim is to help you achieve what you need to feel happier in your life feeling listened to and understood. Repeating old patterns and ways may lead us to feel unhappy with ourselves and our lives. Hello. We all recognise the signs that something isn't quite right. This can be present in many diverse, subtle and interesting ways. It may be that you are overwhelmed by life, work or relationships, or perhaps you are aware that you are repeating patterns of behaviour and are unable to find a way to stop the feelings of stress, anxiety or depression . We can work together to discover what you want from your life; the part you play in your relationships; how to understand, make sense and learn from your past; how to better understand yourself and, where necessary, create the changes you want in life.

In my practice, I endeavour to work with clients in an empathic, collaborative and non-judgemental way. My integrated approach uses systemic theory (including exploring your thought processes and current situation) and psychodynamic theory (historical exploration linking to unconscious thoughts and behaviour). I also apply aspects of emotionally-focused therapy (EFT); and trauma focused therapies.

Many people come to therapy needing support but not being sure how therapy can help. Life may have become difficult to cope with or feel unhappily limited. You may be seeking to understand why things are the way they are; you may be uncertain about what changes are needed, or your capacity to make them; perhaps you just need to talk to someone not directly involved in your situation. My approach is designed to meet all of these concerns, beginning with supportive listening, facilitating insight into your situation, and ultimately supporting you to grow and nurture your inner resources to meet the challenges you face.

I believe that strength comes from within, and that we all have the ability to change given the right conditions and motivation. Reflection and a better understanding of ourselves in relation to others, are essential tools in making changes however small or large. Everyone is unique and I work on the principle that "you are the expert on you " but at times of distress or difficulty, you may lose sight of this. This is where counselling can help you to achieve a more positive outlook and a greater understanding.

Depression Counsellors
Depressive disorders are characterized by persistent feelings of sadness and worthlessness and a lack of desire to engage in formerly pleasurable activities. Depression is not a passing blue mood, which almost everyone experiences from time to time, but a complex mind/body illness that interferes with everyday functioning. It not only darkens one's outlook, it is commonly marked by sleep problems and changes in energy levels and appetite. It alters the structure and function of nerve cells so that it disrupts the way the brain processes information and interprets experience.

Despite feelings of hopelessness and worthlessness, depression is a treatable condition. It can be treated with psychotherapy by depression counsellors in Alton. As with many illnesses, the earlier treatment begins, the more effective it can be and the greater the likelihood that recurrence can be prevented.

Psychotherapy addresses the thinking patterns that precipitate depression, and studies show that it prevents recurrence. Drug therapy is often helpful in relieving symptoms, such as severe anxiety, so that people can engage in meaningful psychotherapy.
