I work with ages spanning from the tender age of 3 to adulthood. I work within trauma and attachment-related challenges, seeking solace and healing. Rooted in past experiences, and how the issues manifest in strained relationships, emotional dysregulation, and a pervasive sense of disconnection. Individuals needs transcend age barriers, encompassing a safe space for expression, empathetic understanding, and tools for coping and resilience. Through therapy, individuals will aspire to reclaim a sense of security, rebuild trust in relationships, and cultivate a healthy sense of self-worth.

Seeking help can be overwhelming, especially for the first time. You may be used to feeling misunderstood, unheard, or unimportant. I aim to help you feel safe and provide a place where you can talk about what's troubling you, without fear of judgment. I am an integrative therapeutic counsellor: I tailor sessions to your wants and needs, and help you find your strengths as well as work through your struggles. Therapy can be hard at times, but it needn't be boring: I encourage creativity, humour, and bringing your own personality into the room!

With climate change, systemic social and financial inequality, polarised political debate, the cost-of-living crisis, and more going on around us, life in the 21st century can be complex and challenging. For those of us who are neurodivergent, LGBTQ+, disabled, racialised, or otherwise marginalized, things can be even tougher. Against this backdrop, prioritising your own well-being through counselling is a radical act which can help you develop self-compassion, address short- or long-term issues, and live authentically.

I work with people who feel stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected, and who sense there is more to life than their current patterns allow. You may be seeking healing from trauma or stress, navigating change or uncertainty, longing for greater clarity, self-trust, and purpose, or wanting to cultivate healthier, more fulfilling relationships. I specialise in Internal Family Systems (IFS), a powerful, compassionate, evidence-based psychotherapy model, and integrate other well-established approaches as needed. Together, we create a safe, collaborative space for understanding, healing, and transformation.

I work with adults and young people from age 11, online and in person. When you feel stuck, overwhelmed, angry or hopeless, counselling offers a chance to slow down and focus on yourself. You might make connections between your past and present, reflect on your emotional responses, develop self-compassion and a deeper understanding of yourself, or simply talk things through. I also have a wealth of experience supporting teens with a range of concerns. Together, we have worked on developing coping strategies, building resilience, understanding anger, emotional regulation, and improving self-esteem, self-image and confidence.

I work online and in person in Oxford and Abingdon, Oxfordshire.  My practice is neuroaffirming - grounded in respect, curiosity and the belief that neurodivergence is a valid and valuable way of being -not something to fix, but something to understand and learn how to live authentically with. "Dianne helped my husband and I bridge seemingly impossible gaps in our understanding of each other and ability to communicate despite considerable differences. Dianne took us from a place where we encountered apparently unresolvable emotional blockages daily, from a place of frustration and chronic misunderstanding to a place where we were able to appreciate each other's feelings and show love to one another increasingly unreservedly. She was skilfully professional, without ever faltering in compassion or humanity. She has given us the tools we needed to succeed in our marriage and we are hugely grateful for her help. " Annon

Play is the child’s nature medium of self-expression – It is essential for development. In the play therapy sessions, the child has opportunity to ‘play out’ their feelings and problems. The intervention has a significant impact on how children view themselves and their future success as students, members of the community, family members, and human beings. Children sometimes experience difficulties and present challenging behaviours. I may contribute to their soul’s playfulness and lightness through the play. Therapeutic intervention plan using non-directive and Integrative Holistic Play Therapy.

Hello and welcome. How can I help support you? It can be difficult to express our feelings or make sense of what is happening to us. Enabling ourselves to be truly heard is important so that we might explore our difficulties. You may feel that a change is needed. Perhaps you struggle with unhelpful patterns or have difficulty setting boundaries for yourself. Do you replay events, wishing that you had done things differently? Perhaps a past trauma is haunting you. Navigating our challenges can make us feel out of control, lost and frustrated. By working together we can heal, build strength and resilience and feel more fulfilled.

Female Counsellors

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or because they feel more comfortable with a therapist of their own gender due to shared life experiences or perspectives. Considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender may matter or improve their therapeutic experience. The most important consideration is that a client is able to build a trusting relationship with their therapist.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist. For women, this could be because they believe that they will be able to better connect with a woman, and that a female therapist will be able to relate to their specific challenges and personal issues. It may be particularly beneficial for women to see a female therapist, for example, for gender-specific issues, such as sexism in the workplace, relationship issues, and gender roles. The most important factor in therapy is the client-therapist connection, and a therapist's gender as well as many other factors may play an important role in this.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
