I have provided therapeutic support to people with various presentations including specializing in: psychosis, eating disorders, depression, anxiety, trauma and LGBTQ+ issues. Across all of these settings and presentations, I often found core underlying themes of feeling anxious, overwhelmed, low, self-critical, stressed, depressed and burned out. Most people struggled to get their minds and bodies in a place of comfort and safety and therefore struggled to “do the work” necessary to recover. Most felt like they had tried everything and were frustrated at the lack of change or difference it made to their lives.
I began learning about burnout and the difference between safety and unsafety as a state of being. As well as how our minds and bodies work to facilitate these feelings and experiences. I learned a valued lesson that you can’t out think a feeling, and that deeper work often needs to be done to stabalise the mind and body.
From my work with burnout, I was able to get in the right place to feel safe in my mind, in my body, and in my life, and to heal the trauma’s that left me feeling broken.
