An aspiring Counselling Psychologist nearing the end of training, and a registered counsellor/psychotherapist with the BACP. In addition to private practice, I have three years' NHS experience, working with depression, anxiety, long-term health problems, addictions, personality disorders, bereavement and psychosexual issues. I adopt an assimilative approach to therapy, tending to predominantly draw upon psychodynamic theory (more specifically attachment theory), where focus is on the psychological roots of emotional suffering.
I will ultimately incorporate more practical interventions, such as those informed by Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). In a nutshell, this looks at changing the automatic negative thoughts that can exacerbate our emotional difficulties. I also tend to draw from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT).
Everyone is unique, therefore I prefer to work collaboratively with clients to create an approach to therapy that suits their own. I pride myself on offering an open, non-judgemental space – somewhere you can be free to explore your thoughts and emotions in complete confidentiality.
