I am a psychoanalytic psychotherapist, and work both in English and in Italian. Psychoanalysis works on the premise that there is more to be known about us than we think, and that this discovery of our own self may enable us to lead a more fulfilling life. I try and understand your unique experience of the world and of others. Symptoms are an important part of this experience, but not the whole truth about it. My aim is to clarify the choices that are available in the face of our struggles, and hopefully a way through them.
I trained at and am a member of the Guild of Psychotherapists in London. I also hold a BA and PhD in English Literature, and have worked extensively in the education sector. My interests are in the creative use of psychoanalysis, and the psychosocial challenges of migration and cultural difference.
I work by listening in the way that is specific to psychoanalytic psychotherapy, trying to hear what is difficult to say in what is being explicitly said. I pay attention to the patterns that tend to repeat themselves in people's lives, and try to understand their function. And I also try and hear the suffering that often hides in those patterns and words.
