We can all experience difficult times in our lives that throw us off course. Sometimes we can also feel that we are operating at 100 miles an hour but getting nowhere fast. Stressed and burnt out you can’t seem to focus properly and day to day living can feel too much, affecting your ability to cope. You can feel so alone and misunderstood, trapped within a vicious cycle of negative thinking and self-criticism. Anxiety, depression and low self-esteem can keep you in a dark place. However, with help and support you can begin to break free and focus on your own needs.

Sometimes we just need someone to talk to who is detached from the people we interact with on a daily basis. If you are looking for a safe space to reflect on the issues that you currently face and need a professional to help you to make sense of your experience and find a way forward, then therapy might help. I offer one-to-one therapy online or face-to-face (office in Bushey), depending on your needs and have experience working with a range of issues including: relationship difficulties, anxiety, depression, bereavement, working with past trauma/abuse, as well as end of life counselling.

Therapy is all about creating meaningful change that will help you to not be held back by mental health difficulties and live your life to the fullest. There's a massive difference between living, and merely existing, and I have been there myself. I feel privileged and excited to be a part of your journey to reach your full potential. This can be a daunting time, as you explore parts of yourself that you haven't acknowledged before, or you have tried previously to work on. I am passionate about therapy as I have seen how life changing it can be and will help you every step of the way to achieve your goals.

The Koru is a powerful symbol in Māori culture from my native New Zealand, representing new beginnings, growth, and the uncurling of the fern leaf. This same idea of growth and renewal can be found in the journey of counselling. My aim is to help you navigate this journey, to support you in finding new ways of thinking and being, and to empower you to make positive changes in your life. Any of us at any time can find ourselves struggling to cope and it can be hard to believe there’s any way back.

As parents when our children are struggling we just want to help but often don’t know how. What they are facing can feel overwhelming but there is hope. Counselling provides children and young people with a safe space where they can explore, work things out, heal and move on from difficulties that they experience. Working with someone who is not a family member or friend, but who is supportive, non-judgmental and accepting, who helps us make sense of what we are going through and move forward, can be really beneficial. I aim to help young people accept and value themselves, raise their resilience, gain coping skills and thrive.

Current crisis, Deeper issue, Self Care. Surprisingly quite often the thing that brings a person to seek support may be a way in to understanding deeper causes of unhappiness, anxiety or depression. Sometimes people live with a feeling of "something just not being quite right". Counselling can help develop Self-Awareness which in turn can be life changing! That’s the good news - but like most things in life it doesn’t happen without effort, and can be painful, but the results are definitely worth it! So be brave and you may look forward to personal growth and hopefully increased happiness. I look forward to hearing from you.

At times, life can throw us curve balls, and although we've dealt with some of the most trying times, where we've managed to muddle through in the face of adversity, there are times in life where we start feeling stuck, anxious, low and unmotivated. Sometimes all we need is a sounding board to let out our frustrations when no-one else seems to understand and other-times we need help finding our answers on how to move forward. Whether its old patterns that keep repeating themselves or unexpected events which throw you off course, we all need a helping hand in our journey

I get it. I've been there. You seem confident, ambitious and are always there for others. People think you lead a great life but it doesn’t always feel that way. You got through childhood and teenage years and have lots to be grateful for. Despite all of your effort and achievement in life, something doesn't feel quite right. An anxious, nagging feeling sits in your mind and body and makes you uncomfortable in your own skin. You’ve ignored it and carried on but you have many questions. It’s frustrating and exhausting but something has prompted you to find answers. You want to be more relaxed within yourself and feel good enough.

How can I find a therapist in Watford?

Search for nearby therapists or counsellors by inputting your city, postcode, or a provider’s name into the search bar. Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are members of the main professional associations, mainly the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). Most Psychologists in the directory are accredited members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and/or are registered in the Health and Care Professions Council (HPCP).

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given that professional memberships are not a statutory requirement for psychotherapists and counsellors in the UK, certain qualified professionals or organisations may choose not to maintain such memberships despite possessing the necessary qualifications. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and experience that enable them to do so in the UK. Psychologists have earned a degree in psychology and many are members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and have completed a postgraduate qualification in a specialism. Counsellors and Psychotherapists are not required to have a psychology degree, but to belong to a professional organisation such as the BACP or UKCP, they are required to have completed a training course as well as clinical and supervision hours.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the UK could be between £30 - £60 when seeing a counsellor and £60 - £150 and up when seeing a clinical psychologist. If you have private insurance, your plan may cover some if not all of your sessions. You should contact your insurance provider to determine if they provide coverage for therapy sessions and to determine what, if any, requirements they might have in order for your sessions to be covered, such as a referral from your GP or medical specialist.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. The NHS Talking therapies programme offers free of charge counselling for common mental health problems like anxiety and depression. The service is available to anyone registered with a GP, though you do not necessarily need to be referred by your GP and can refer yourself directly to a Talking therapies service. The service will provide different solutions, including group and individual therapy, for a limited number of sessions which are generally up to six.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Therapists who are part of a professional organisation such as the BACP, the UKCP, or BPS are bound by an ethical framework that requires them to uphold a confidentiality agreement. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there has been participation in a criminal act or act of terror, or if there is potential or known harm to the client or others, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
