LGBTQ+ Affirmative, Addiction and Trauma Informed. My approach is psychodynamic, meaning that we will work in a way which explores links between past and present relationships and experiences. In particular, I can help you to explore how the impact of the past has led to the development of unconscious, repetitive patterns in the different parts of your life such as intimate relationships and work, which may have become unhelpful.
By becoming more aware of these parts of yourself that may be hidden, more informed choices can be made and life can be experienced from a place of increased emotional freedom and openness.

I have experience of working closely with people with enduring and complex mental health difficulties, suicidal ideation, troubling relational patterns and people recovering from grief and loss. I use music as a tool to facilitate the building of the therapeutic relationship, and listening, songwriting, lyric analysis and composing can all be incredibly accessible ways of starting to explore what is troubling you. Equally, sometimes we may spend most sessions talking. Clients do not need to have any prior musical experience, and I am very happy working with children, young people and adults.

We all face times of anxiety, low mood or difficulties in our relationships and family/work life. Many of us carry the weight of past trauma or identity struggles. Sometimes, these can be inherited patterns passed down through generations.
Beginning therapy can be a powerful first step toward understanding these experiences, easing emotional burdens and discovering a new path forward. Therapy aims to help you move past what’s holding you back, so that you can live with greater confidence, build healthier relationships and thrive in your life.

Well done on taking the most difficult decision to access counselling. Sometimes we feel totally overwhelmed by the challenges in life and seeking professional help seems like a momentous decision. However, when in crisis we need more than talking to our friends and family who may not always know how to listen without giving well meaning advice or simply may not know what to say. You may be feeling isolated and lonely, frightened or anxious. You may have temporarily lost your way. I will ensure that you are carefully listened to and I will accept you as you are, without judgement. Together we will find a way forward.

Psychotherapeutic work is relational in nature and so it requires a genuine personal engagement. The challenge is having conversations that break us out of ourselves, our stories, dramas and fear. Psychotherapy and counselling are about seeing a new way of relating to ourselves and others, to life and to the world.
