Are you feeling anxious, questioning who you are; why you do the things you do? Are you worried about how your behaviour is impacting your relationships, but you feel you cannot break these patterns? Are you finding that some childhood/past memories keep popping into your head? Are you questioning how you feel about them and how they may have impacted you? Are you yearning for love and acceptance, but find you push people away? Are you worried that you if you don't find a way to feel better about yourself that you'll go on hurting not only you but also those you love most?

Because your history, personality, and circumstances are yours alone, you need a tailored approach to therapy. That said, all clients arrive for their first appointment for more or less the same reasons. You're struggling, and it's painful, and change feels so necessary and yet so impossible. You've tried to fix things, but nothing has worked, or it's not worked for long. You're tired of feeling like this, don't like it when you react like this, don't want to feel at war with life, or work, or other people, or your own mind anymore. You're out of ideas and want help to find a better way.

I am an Addiction Recovery Coach and counsellor working with many kinds of addictive behaviour, from alcohol and drugs to gambling, sex and social media. I recognise that addiction is a strong, uncontrollable desire to seek out the ‘high’ despite the increasing, negative and harmful consequences. It becomes the most important thing in your life and can lead to problems in all areas of your life. Professional addiction coaching and counselling can help you to regain control of yourself and your life, and help you to understand the underlying causes, break the vicious cycle, and identify any triggers that may lead to a relapse.

Do you feel like you’re constantly overthinking, stuck in your own head, or carrying emotional weight from the past, even though you’re trying your best to keep going? Maybe you’re the one everyone leans on, but deep down, it feels exhausting. If you're feeling anxious, burnt out, low in confidence, or simply stuck, you’re not alone, and you don’t have to figure it all out by yourself. Therapy offers a space to slow down, breathe, and start making sense of things in a way that feels safe, manageable, and tailored to you.

As a Jungian Psychoanalyst/Psychotherapist I believe that bringing more consciousness to our lives/relationships is the key to psychological transformation and healing. I offer a reflective space for adults navigating emotional challenges, life transitions, or a deeper search for meaning. I'm based in East London where I work both in-person and online across the UK. Before training as a therapist, I worked in international finance. A life-threatening illness in my 30's led me to re-evaluate everything. That experience and my own analysis/therapy informs my practice with empathy, depth and a belief in the psyche’s capacity to heal.

Perhaps you feel stuck; trapped in a life that is not how you want it. Coping mechanisms that helped in the past are now stopping you from doing the things you would like to. Perhaps you crave meaningful connections but struggle in you relationships with others. Current events or traumas from the past are holding you back and you don’t fully understand what you are feeling or what to do about it. I am a psychodynamic psychotherapist with experience working in the NHS, and I strongly believe that together we can create a safe, confidential space to think about what is happening for you and what could change.

You feel stuck in repeating patterns, struggling with anxiety, self-doubt, or difficult relationships. Maybe stress is taking over, leaving you disconnected from yourself and others. You want to break free, understand your emotions, and feel more in control. You’re ready for change but unsure where to start. Your goal is clarity, confidence, and deeper, healthier connections. You seek a space where you can be heard without judgment and explore your thoughts and emotions with the right support to help you move forward.

You’ve explored BPD, C-PTSD and Depression and related to everything a little. Maybe you’ve been “holding it together” for so long, you barely notice the weight anymore. You care deeply and overthink everything. You find yourself stuck replaying patterns or caught in a loop of shame and self-doubt. Or maybe you have a difficult relationship with your feelings. You consider leaving before anyone else does. I work with people who are tired of just surviving. My approach is shaped by Interpersonal Neurobiology and Attachment theory and by the belief that your body remembers, you matter, and it’s okay to never get over some things.

Hi, I’m Mark. I believe everyone has the capacity to live a meaningful, fulfilling life—and sometimes we just need the right space to explore what that looks like. I'm proficient in the use of the Rewind technique. My approach to therapy is grounded in the understanding that emotional and mental wellbeing are essential to overall health. But I also know that therapy doesn’t need to be full of jargon. At its heart, it’s about connection, safety, and support. I’m here to to walk alongside you as you explore where you are, where you’d like to be, and what’s getting in the way. Sound good?

My clients value openly talking about themselves and the difficulties they experience to work out how to move forward in their lives. To date I have worked with clients who experience: deep loneliness; anxiety and/or depression; who want to change their outlook of their life; who have an inability to cope with recent or continual change; who experience unhappiness with their work/life balance or relationship issues; who are impacted by or have been impacted by domestic violence.

I provide a warm, confidential space. Nothing shocks me, and I don’t judge. Often, giving voice to what's troubling you offers relief. We'll also discover and affirm your talents, achievements and strengths, as we travel the road to growth and meaning. I value you for the unique individual you are. This kind of environment can be rare to find and powerful to experience. Clients say that they feel supported by me, have identified challenges and gained insights and resources. I don't take the 'blank screen' approach, so I don't stare at you in silence. If I don't share my thoughts with you, the therapy is only taking place in my head.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are members of the main professional associations, mainly the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). Most Psychologists in the directory are accredited members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and/or are registered in the Health and Care Professions Council (HPCP).

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given that professional memberships are not a statutory requirement for psychotherapists and counsellors in the UK, certain qualified professionals or organisations may choose not to maintain such memberships despite possessing the necessary qualifications. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and experience that enable them to do so in the UK. Psychologists have earned a degree in psychology and many are members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and have completed a postgraduate qualification in a specialism. Counsellors and Psychotherapists are not required to have a psychology degree, but to belong to a professional organisation such as the BACP or UKCP, they are required to have completed a training course as well as clinical and supervision hours.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the UK could be between £30 - £60 when seeing a counsellor and £60 - £150 and up when seeing a clinical psychologist. If you have private insurance, your plan may cover some if not all of your sessions. You should contact your insurance provider to determine if they provide coverage for therapy sessions and to determine what, if any, requirements they might have in order for your sessions to be covered, such as a referral from your GP or medical specialist.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. The NHS Talking therapies programme offers free of charge counselling for common mental health problems like anxiety and depression. The service is available to anyone registered with a GP, though you do not necessarily need to be referred by your GP and can refer yourself directly to a Talking therapies service. The service will provide different solutions, including group and individual therapy, for a limited number of sessions which are generally up to six.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Therapists who are part of a professional organisation such as the BACP, the UKCP, or BPS are bound by an ethical framework that requires them to uphold a confidentiality agreement. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there has been participation in a criminal act or act of terror, or if there is potential or known harm to the client or others, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
