Life often presents us with challenges and each one of us develops their own ways of dealing with adversities. Sometimes, however, we might feel ‘lost’, incongruent with how we would like to be, how we would like to relate with others and engage with life. Our difficulties may present themselves in different forms and we often use words such as depression, anxiety, stress, low self-esteem, panic, phobia, obsessive-compulsive disorder, trauma, relationship difficulties, sexuality concerns, grief and loss to describe our experience.

Being human isn't always easy. We all have times when we can feel overwhelmed by life, whether through trauma, loss and bereavement, anxiety or depression or many other issues, and this can lead us to feeling stuck. Whether you are seeking help for a specific short-term issue or whether you want to work longer term on deep rooted issues, counselling can really help. Talking things through may help you to look at things through a different perspective so that the thoughts and feelings that were overwhelming begin to feel more manageable.

In these challenging times you may be experiencing anxiety, struggling to make sense of your world while coping with existing emotional issues. I understand how difficult this can be and offer a safe, confidential space where we can explore the issues or events that have led you to seek counselling. At various stages in our lives we can struggle to make sense of things, whether in our relationships, working lives, due to bereavement or any major life event. This can result in feelings of anxiety, low self esteem, depression and lack of motivation and energy. We may feel our relationships are in crisis and cannot see a way through.

I am Sade and I aim to support you with emotional, psychological and general difficulties. I realize that not everyone has a main 'problem' as such. We sometimes simply want to understand ourselves better, explore our feelings discreetly without judgement and develop healthier relationships. The pressure to succeed, the constant demands on your time, and the fear of asking for help can all contribute to feeling isolated and needing support. Whatever your reason for seeking therapy at this time, I welcome you. I hope we can develop a relationship that supports you in being heard, reaching your goals and dealing with difficult issues.

I have 25 years’ experience as a brief, solution-focused therapist, psychologist and coach, helping people overcome trauma, anxiety, childhood abuse, OCD, ADHD and other problems. The way I work is to help you clarify your goals, identify what it is within you that’s blocking you, find out where this comes from in your biography, and help you to relearn that experience to permanently resolve your problem. This person-centred therapy will enable you fully to overcome your problem, not simply to understand or manage it. Clients have noted how quickly transformational change occurs. 'I feel happier than I've felt since I was 9.'

I believe we are all susceptible, at some point in our lives, to feeling overwhelmed by what life can bring. Sometimes we encounter experiences that are hard for us to come to terms with leaving us in need of support, this may be in the form of a bereavement, a relationship breakdown, a job loss; any event that we struggle to comprehend and understand. Other times a series of events may have taken place that leave us feeling like we are walking under a big black cloud and fail to see a way forward. At times like this counselling can help.

Hi, my name is Alec, and it is a pleasure to meet you. I understand that seeking counselling or therapy can be a deeply personal experience and it can be difficult to take that first step. For this reason, I strive to offer clients a safe, friendly, and compassionate space to explore their difficulties while they learn about themselves and find healthier alternative ways to live their lives. I do not give advice and fully believe you are the expert on how to be you. However, no matter what your difficulty maybe I can offer you empathy, understanding and support as we work together. If you are seeking change, therapy may be helpful.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counsellors are all licensed mental health professionals. In many countries, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counsellor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counsellors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counsellor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counselling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
