Having been a client myself, I have a strong appreciation for how difficult life can be at times. Painful experiences often make it impossible for us to see through problems and move forward. Allow me to introduce myself: I am a father, a son, a husband, a brother, a good friend, a counsellor and psychotherapist.

People can find themselves in challenging situations, giving way to certain feelings and emotions. The prospect that something may have changed, or something stopped working can be difficult. The sense of feeling stuck, not knowing what to do can be unsettling. Perhaps this has been going on for some time causing effort and exhaustion. This is where therapy can help. I offer genuine warmth, understanding, and togetherness whether your first time or returning to therapy. We can look at where you are now and how you got there. How it effects and affects you.

Many people seek therapy at some point in their life. This might be to address a specific problem, work through something in their past, or help them to move their life more in line with their values. During our initial meeting, we will develop a shared understanding of your difficulties and therapy goals in the context of your life experiences, your background and your current circumstances. This will allow us to create a treatment plan together that is specifically tailored to your individual needs, and aims to help you make meaningful changes. I offer a safe, confidential and non-judgmental space to explore your experiences.

I am an integrative therapeutic counsellor and a member of the BACP. I believe strongly in creating a safe, collaborative, creative space to explore underlying issues from both the past and present. I work drawing on a range of theories that I feel best suits who I am working with. During these difficult times of coronavirus and lockdown, I am offering sessions via the phone, Skype, and FaceTime. They are accepted methods also within the NHS, where I originally learnt to work with them. I am an integrative counsellor/psychotherapist having worked extensively in the NHS but now work privately. My background in the NHS has made me comfortable working within a multicultural context (LGBT and BME) with a very wide age group of clients (18 -90). I have also studied Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and can offer this separately.

Sometimes we begin to recognise patterns in our lives that we're not particularly happy with or are curious about. Be it the relationships we choose, the situations we find ourselves in or our response to challenges, therapy can help you to shed light on why this might be. At other times, we need a space to feel heard without all of the noise, bias and judgement that may come with speaking to friends and family. A space that is just for you. We are all deserving of this.

I am a fully trained psychotherapist (MBACP Reg. & MNCPS Acc.) and supervisor with 20+ years experience. When life feels a little out of balance, it's important that we find our own answers to the things that concern us about our lives. It's also important that we find a way to do this that suits our preferences, our needs and our styles. It's vital that we find a place where we can consider those questions about our lives and the situations we find ourselves in with patience, compassion and care. Finding a counsellor or psychotherapist to be with us can bring enormous benefit during difficult times.

I’m interested in what works. For you. So I take a pluralistic, integrative approach and don’t limit myself to one particular way of working. Whether you’re seeing me for counselling, schema-based therapy or psychosexual therapy, I'll tailor my approach to suit your needs. And it’s the relationship between you and I which will be central to the work. Because I’m not a friend, colleague or family member, you can think the unthinkable and speak the unspeakable in a judgement-free space. You can rely on me to be honest with you, and bring into your awareness your blind spots, and things on the edge of your awareness you might missing.

Drug Abuse Counsellors
How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?
In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counsellors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.
How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?
Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.
How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.
Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?
There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
