Hello, my name is Dr Jennifer O’Connell, and I am a HCPC registered Clinical Psychologist offering EMDR and Schema Therapy. I am passionate about helping people to make sense of and work through difficult life events. My specialism is working with recent and historic experiences of trauma or childhood adversity. This is wide ranging, for example witnessing or experiencing a car accident, military trauma, sexual or emotional abuse, bullying, a violent crime, or social humiliation. It could also involve growing up in an environment where you repeatedly experienced a sense of invalidation or isolation from others.
We will work as a team to develop resources to manage high levels of emotion, flashbacks, nightmares, and/or self-criticism that may have developed after difficult life events. We will also understand the underlying cause(s) of distress, help ‘process’ these experiences, and learn how to turn towards healthy patterns of behaviour to help meet your needs.
My style is warm and down-to-earth, and I place great emphasis on developing a strong and trusting relationship to ensure a felt sense of safety.
