You may be seeking counselling for a specific issue, such as anxiety, abuse, bereavement or perhaps you are feeling stuck or out of sorts. Whether you are facing personal struggles, relationship issues, or simply seeking personal growth, I see counselling as an opportunity for you to safely explore your emotions and to help you develop coping strategies. Life experiences can leave us feeling angry, ashamed, anxious, and sad. I believe that we don't have to be identified by these experiences. Together we can explore your thoughts and feelings in a safe, non-judgemental and supportive space.

I have worked with hoarding, depression, post natal depression, abuse, sexual abuse, crime, stalking, relationship issues, family break downs, loneliness, anxiety and bullying to name just a few.
I am a qualified counsellor offering therapy on a one to one basis. I offer a confidential space to explore your thoughts and feelings. I work with both short term and long term clients. We go at a pace that suits you. I am a college lecturer, teaching counselling which allows me to be robust in many theories. I use a combination of these theories to support my clients. I have been in the media for my achievements working with hoarding behaviours. More recently, I have been in the media, TV, newspapers and radio for my campaign to raise awareness of Blue Spot. I am studying my degree in Criminology and Psychology.

In my experience, people make the decision to come to counselling for many reasons, and I understand that it can feel very daunting to embark on a journey of this kind. I have a number of years experience of working with individuals with a range of issues including anxiety, depression, stress, anger, loss and bereavement, addictive behaviours, as well as family/work/relationship issues. I believe that just being able to talk about your thoughts and feelings can often bring great relief, and this experience can be life changing.

I have over 15 years of experience of counselling and psychotherapy working with people with a wide variety of issues, such as relationship issues, anxiety, stress, loss and depression. My aim is to help you achieve what you need to feel happier in your life feeling listened to and understood. Repeating old patterns and ways may lead us to feel unhappy with ourselves and our lives. I will help you work through things that may be keeping you stuck and find new ways to move forward, helping you to be more the way you want to be.

Anxiety, self-doubt, low self-esteem, persistent or seemingly unexplainable feelings of low-mood are all common concerns that many of us will experience at some point in our lives- you are not alone. Perhaps current distressing thoughts, feelings of overwhelm or harmful behaviours have come as a result of a sudden change that you are struggling to process alone; a recent bereavement, relationship breakdown, serious health diagnosis or you have experienced a traumatic injury or assault.

Would you like to talk about what goes on in your life and in your head? Want to be sure that you will not be judged and that you feel safe whilst exploring your thoughts, feelings and behaviours? Maybe you are wondering which event or events in your life have most affected how you feel. There could be relationships, past, present, and future which play on your mind. Do you want healthier relationships? Do you wonder if the way you feel gets in the way of you getting what you want out of life or living the life you want? You may have feelings you do not understand or believe you have lost yourself and no longer know how you feel.

Domestic Abuse Counsellors

What are the most effective ways to recover from domestic abuse?

Leaving an abusive relationship requires tremendous courage, so survivors in treatment should recognise that they have already completed the most important step. Still, the trauma of physical or emotional abuse can be difficult to process and overcome. Therapy can help survivors process trauma, grief, and difficult emotions, treat relevant mental health symptoms, and create a new framework for boundaries and relationships in the future. For some, support groups can also be an invaluable outlet for healing.

When should an individual seek help for domestic abuse?

Victims of intimate partner violence should seek help immediately. It can take substantial time, planning, energy, and courage to leave an abusive relationship, but starting the process—by seeking therapy, calling the domestic violence hotline, or simply confiding in a loved one—will help them get there. Those who have left abusive relationships but haven’t sought treatment can also greatly benefit from therapy to process and heal from the experience.

What are the consequences of staying in an abusive relationship?

Remaining in an abusive relationship has serious repercussions. In addition to the ongoing threat of physical danger and emotional abuse, research shows that intimate partner violence is associated with a range of mental health disorders including depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and substance abuse. Therefore it’s important for individuals in an abusive relationship to seek help as soon as possible.

How can you get domestic abuse treatment for someone else?

It can be very complicated to identify and leave an abusive relationship; barriers include the threat of violence, financial instability, and family pressures. Those concerned about a loved one in an abusive relationship should talk to them about the situation, provide them with resources such as the domestic violence hotline, and introduce the idea of seeing a therapist due to their concern for the person’s safety and well-being.
