Hello, I'm Zareeda and I work with people on issues ranging from rape and sexual abuse to stress, bereavement, anxiety and depression. If you are struggling to find meaning in life you may be feeling disconnected from yourself and/or those around you. This loss of contact with yourself, your needs, values and beliefs may decrease your trust in your ability to form and build meaningful relationships and achieve personal goals.

I work with adults both one to one and in group therapy that present with a range of difficulties which include Addiction, Mental Health, Eating Disorders, Self Harm, Bereavement, Anxiety, Depression, Domestic and Sexual Abuse, Trauma, Personality Disorders and many other challenges that individuals come to therapy for.
I am a highly qualified and experienced therapist working in Nottingham with clients seeking support when they are struggling with emotional or mental health challenges. Many people seek therapy when they are feeling vulnerable and experiencing a challenging time in their lives, due to past experiences or events that are happening in the present day. I understand how big this first step is. My role as a therapist is to provide you with a safe and confidential space to talk and help you explore the challenges you are currently facing and help you heal and find solutions. I have worked for the Priory Clinic, Steps Together Rehab.

I have worked as a counsellor in a variety of organisations including those focused on working with trauma and abuse and those which focus on young people between 6 and 25.
I am based in Beeston, Nottingham. It easily accessible by car, bus and tram. Things can throw us off course and we can lose ourselves and need support through difficult times. It may just be that you need someone to talk to about what’s going on for you. I can help you by offering a warm and safe space where you will be fully listened to and can explore your emotional difficulties without judgement and at a pace that suits you.

I have supported women who have experienced domestic abuse and supported them in their journey.
Sometimes life can be tough and talking about the challenges and struggles we go through with our loved ones can be even more difficult and it can leave us feeling isolated and lonely. Asking for help is not easy and if you have not experienced counselling before you may find your self asking the question, do i need counselling? If you feel the need to gain insight and self awareness than counselling is a safe place for you to start your journey of self healing. We are living in the time of uncertainty and many of us are feeling stressed and anxious. It can be helpful to talk to a professional who can provide an outside perspective.

I work with domestic abuse, identity, sexual trauma, PTSD, self-esteem, anger, grief, relationship issues, OCD, body issues, anxiety, depression, guilt, shame, loneliness and sometimes just exploring and finding who you are.
I provide a warm safe trusting space where you can process and unfold life’s difficulties and issues. I have extensive experience working with BPD, complex trauma and how people coordinate their lives. Additionally, what may seem minimal in relation to bigger issues you perceive others have, can have great impact on us. All issues are worth exploring if the impact creates difficulties. My approach is collaborative and integrative, addressing present/historical trauma, revisiting a childhood that was difficult, unwanted or distorted thoughts/feelings or just needing to be heard and talk openly.

In my 10+ years in the field, I have worked with people facing a wide range of issues, but I do my best work with people in need of individual counselling or dealing with sexual and domestic abuse, life limiting illness and bereavement.
You tried to do it all on your own. You’ve been trying hard to get better and live a happy life. But it still feels like something is missing. You’re trying to be strong and putting up a front but it is not a weakness to ask for professional help. Imagine you were feeling at your best and you were taking up opportunities spontaneously, no longer feeling like you are missing out on life. Therapy can help you to feel more confident and in control of your emotions. By working through the challenges you are facing, you will feel happier, lighter, and regain your vitality.

My background is in supporting survivors of sexual violence.
Therapy can be a tough enough undertaking without sitting across from somebody furiously scribbling in a notebook, poker faced whilst you try your best to open up. So, I run my practice with a few core values: acceptance, kindness, empathy, compassion and a touch of humour and humanity to lighten the load a bit. No chaise longue necessary. The type of therapy I do is called integrative psychotherapy. It means I incorporate a few different types of therapy (person centred, attachment theory and cut) to create a style tailored specifically to you and your needs.

I have worked with many clients with complexed trauma and abuse.
Making the decision about coming to counselling can be quite daunting however more and more people are looking to therapists for support. It is important to choose a therapist that is right for you so I will give you as much information as possible to help you make an informed choice. I believe that when we have a better understanding of who we are/our patterns of behaviour then we can engage in healthier relationships, live autonomous lives and fulfil our potential.

Domestic Abuse Counsellors

What are the most effective ways to recover from domestic abuse?

Leaving an abusive relationship requires tremendous courage, so survivors in treatment should recognise that they have already completed the most important step. Still, the trauma of physical or emotional abuse can be difficult to process and overcome. Therapy can help survivors process trauma, grief, and difficult emotions, treat relevant mental health symptoms, and create a new framework for boundaries and relationships in the future. For some, support groups can also be an invaluable outlet for healing.

When should an individual seek help for domestic abuse?

Victims of intimate partner violence should seek help immediately. It can take substantial time, planning, energy, and courage to leave an abusive relationship, but starting the process—by seeking therapy, calling the domestic violence hotline, or simply confiding in a loved one—will help them get there. Those who have left abusive relationships but haven’t sought treatment can also greatly benefit from therapy to process and heal from the experience.

What are the consequences of staying in an abusive relationship?

Remaining in an abusive relationship has serious repercussions. In addition to the ongoing threat of physical danger and emotional abuse, research shows that intimate partner violence is associated with a range of mental health disorders including depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and substance abuse. Therefore it’s important for individuals in an abusive relationship to seek help as soon as possible.

How can you get domestic abuse treatment for someone else?

It can be very complicated to identify and leave an abusive relationship; barriers include the threat of violence, financial instability, and family pressures. Those concerned about a loved one in an abusive relationship should talk to them about the situation, provide them with resources such as the domestic violence hotline, and introduce the idea of seeing a therapist due to their concern for the person’s safety and well-being.
