The thought of reaching out for support can feel daunting. The idea of being vulnerable can feel overwhelming. Facing these experiences, without judgment, with someone impartial, who is trained to listen can be really powerful. Therapy can offer you an insight, or a reframing, that can enable you to make changes or try different ways of approaching things. Gaining greater self-awareness may feel uncomfortable at times but you set the pace and guide where you want the sessions to go.

Thank you for taking the time to read my profile. With over 35 years experience I have helped hundreds of people like you to find greater peace and acceptance of themselves. The pandemic has revealed difficulties such as anxiety, depression, obsessiveness, and feelings of powerlessness to name but a few. Relationships with ourselves, with families and partners have been sorely tested. How we relate to ourselves is the building block for how we relate to others. People tell me that I am a good listener, warm, compassionate, wise with a sense of humour.

Hello and welcome. Are you feeling out of sorts, lost, or not yourself? You may be struggling with anxiety, grief, or other emotional difficulties. Maybe you're coming to terms with a recent separation, a health condition, or another traumatic life event. Life can be challenging at times and we can find it hard to see a way forward. Pressures placed on us can be unrelenting and take their toll. These can often manifest in unrealistic expectations of oneself, leading to high stress levels and burnout. Whatever you bring I will hear you.

Having practised as a therapist for twenty years I have had the privilege to work with many creative, resilient, courageous and resourceful people. However, very few felt that way when they first came for therapy. Life can be challenging and we all struggle at times to cope with problems and stressful situations. Different people obviously find different things difficult but what everyone shares are the natural responses of feeling distressed, confused, anxious and lost. Psychotherapy can help you to express your feelings, work through anxiety and depression and develop positive responses to the challenges you are facing.

Life can feel overwhelming, especially when you’re carrying things that others can’t see. You might feel stuck, anxious, burnt out, or unsure why you’re not coping. You may also feel misaligned or uncertain about what comes next. I don’t offer quick fixes or advice, I offer a safe, non-judgemental space for counselling or coaching, to explore what’s going on at your pace. For trauma or distressing events, I use gentle approaches like the Rewind Technique, which can help you process difficult memories without having to relive them in detail. Sometimes, having someone who really listens is the first step.

I am a Clinical Psychologist offering psychological therapy in natural settings, alongside traditional indoor sessions. Life can leave us feeling overwhelmed, stuck, disconnected, or struggling to cope. Our experiences, relationships, health needs, and ways of coping can shape how we feel about ourselves and others and influence the choices we make. I believe a compassionate, trusting, and carefully challenging therapeutic relationship is central to meaningful change, and I aim to offer a safe and supportive space to explore difficulties, develop greater self understanding, and move towards a healthier and more fulfilling life.

You may look capable on the outside — the steady one others rely on — yet privately feel anxious, disconnected, or increasingly strained in your relationships. Often it isn’t just stress, but patterns in communication and attachment that quietly erode closeness over time. Many people begin therapy individually and realise their personal growth is closely linked to their relationships. I offer calm, thoughtful therapy for individuals and couples seeking clarity, depth and lasting change.

Most people feel overwhelmed and 'burned out' at some point in their life. Often we know what the problem is, it might be work related, personal or a combination of things. Maybe, it is less clear, a general awareness of feeling low and unhappy much of the time without really knowing why. It can be invaluable to have somewhere private and confidential to talk, to be able to think more clearly about what isn't working, the reasons why and how things could be different going forward.

I am a qualified integrative counsellor and psychotherapist. I believe we are shaped by our past and present relationships, influencing how we view ourselves, others and our environment. Sometimes this causes distress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, loss, grief and much more. Many clients come to therapy questioning why what has worked for them in the past no longer works for them now. Together we work to understand, find clarity and make meaningful lasting change. I provide professional therapy tailored to clients' individual needs, supporting clients as they move toward their goals at a pace comfortable to them.

People come to therapy for many different reasons. Some arrive feeling anxious or low; others feel overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure why life feels heavier than it once did. Some come during times of transition, changes in work, relationships, identity, or direction, while others come simply because something no longer feels quite right. My role is to offer a space where whatever has brought you can be explored with care, curiosity, and respect. You do not need to arrive with clear answers or a neatly defined problem. We begin where you are.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are members of the main professional associations, mainly the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). Most Psychologists in the directory are accredited members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and/or are registered in the Health and Care Professions Council (HPCP).

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given that professional memberships are not a statutory requirement for psychotherapists and counsellors in the UK, certain qualified professionals or organisations may choose not to maintain such memberships despite possessing the necessary qualifications. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and experience that enable them to do so in the UK. Psychologists have earned a degree in psychology and many are members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and have completed a postgraduate qualification in a specialism. Counsellors and Psychotherapists are not required to have a psychology degree, but to belong to a professional organisation such as the BACP or UKCP, they are required to have completed a training course as well as clinical and supervision hours.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the UK could be between £30 - £60 when seeing a counsellor and £60 - £150 and up when seeing a clinical psychologist. If you have private insurance, your plan may cover some if not all of your sessions. You should contact your insurance provider to determine if they provide coverage for therapy sessions and to determine what, if any, requirements they might have in order for your sessions to be covered, such as a referral from your GP or medical specialist.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. The NHS Talking therapies programme offers free of charge counselling for common mental health problems like anxiety and depression. The service is available to anyone registered with a GP, though you do not necessarily need to be referred by your GP and can refer yourself directly to a Talking therapies service. The service will provide different solutions, including group and individual therapy, for a limited number of sessions which are generally up to six.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Therapists who are part of a professional organisation such as the BACP, the UKCP, or BPS are bound by an ethical framework that requires them to uphold a confidentiality agreement. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there has been participation in a criminal act or act of terror, or if there is potential or known harm to the client or others, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
