Hello, I'm Pippa and I have more than 10 years' experience helping stressed and anxious teenagers feel better, build confidence in themselves and find healthier ways to cope. I really understand how all consuming it is when you're worried about your child. They might be worried about school, relationships with friends or family or perhaps feeling on edge, overwhelmed or sad and tearful without knowing why. Sometimes it can be really helpful to have a trusted adult outside the family who can give a supportive space to your young person and guide you all through the process towards feeling better.

Hello I’m Selene. I have 20 years of experience as a counsellor. I am a warm and open-minded person with a good sense of humour. I offer a welcoming and confidential space where we can together create an empowering therapeutic relationship. I believe you are an expert in your own life and my role is to support and challenge you reconnecting with yourself and your strengths. Counselling is an opportunity to give yourself the time and space to imagine who you want to be. Sometimes fear and shame make us stuck and disconnected from others and not able to ask for what we want. Therapy can help you free yourself and open connection.

If you've noticed you're not feeling the same joy you used to and you're worrying about things you didn't used to but you're not sure anyone can help counselling really is the first step towards feeling so much better. I know my own counselling journey changed my life and that is why I am so passionate about what I do. When we understand where our negative patterns stem from we can change our whole lives and break the cycle for our own children. There are reasons why you are struggling and together we can figure out why you are so stuck. Life can feel so much better and this really is the first step.

If you've arrived here, you are already thinking about counselling. You might feel depressed, anxious or overwhelmed and finding it difficult to cope with the challenges of life. Perhaps you have experienced a recent loss, had a sudden change of circumstances or are struggling with relationships. Maybe you don't even know what's troubling you. Research shows positive change happens when there is a good match between client and counsellor. It’s difficult to choose a counsellor or know what to expect from counselling without having a face-to-face meeting. This is why I offer a reduced rate intro session of £15 where we can meet

Whether a couple or an individual, whatever troubles you…abuse, anxiety, confidence, low self-esteem, relationship issues, sex, sexuality and psychosexual issues, trauma or any other issue…the first step back to well-being is to reach out for support. Perhaps a counselling relationship is what you need to help you through. Although family, close friends and colleagues can offer valuable support, sometimes these very relationships can be barriers to exploring honestly and openly what you may be thinking or experiencing. This is where the therapeutic counselling relationship could help.

I imagine that you are here because life seems particularly tough at the moment. Perhaps you are anxious about the future, or suffering with difficult memories from the past. Perhaps you have realised that the relationship patterns you have developed are no longer working for you and you would like to find a new way of connecting to your partner or others. Perhaps you need some practical guidance with a sex related problem. Wouldn't it be good if a trusted professional, who is also warm and 'real' could help you find a positive way forward?

Life's ebbs and flows can bring up a mixture of emotions, experiences and sensations. Sometimes we know what is going on and our coping strategies work well. And sometimes we feel stuck, anxious or overwhelmed with no clear path in front of us. I offer a compassionate and respectful space where we can work together to explore where you find yourself in life right now, identify the patterns that you might want to shift, bring some attention and care to the issues that are important to you, and identify the goals you'd like to reach at the pace that feels right for you.

Divorce Counsellors

How does therapy for people affected by a divorce work?

Individuals may feel a number of emotions following a divorce, such as shock, guilt, grief, anger, and fear. Therapists offer a non-judgmental space for individuals to talk about what they’ve experienced and process their emotions. Therapists will help clients develop coping strategies. They can also help a client rebuild their sense of self and self-worth and talk about what a happier future might look like.

What’s the most common type of therapy following a divorce?

There are several types of therapy that may be useful for divorce, including cognitive behavioural, acceptance and commitment, solution-focused brief, and mindfulness-based therapies. Many therapy types are talk-therapy based, which is typically the most popular option for individuals dealing with divorce. Cognitive behavioural therapy is a widely-used talk therapy, however, there’s no specific therapy type that’s designed to help people with divorce, and different types will work depending on the person.

When should an individual seek help due to a divorce?

When the feelings of a divorced individual, or an individual going through the process of divorce, begin to disrupt healthy daily functioning, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not performing at work due to problems with anxiety or motivation, if they’re no longer seeing friends due to feelings of shame, or if they’re not properly taking care of themselves as a result of depression, speaking to a professional could help.

How do you encourage someone to go to therapy due to a divorce?

It’s helpful to express concern and love for the individual while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Sharing how the individual appears to be suffering, and what effects it has on them or on their children, should be done with compassion and empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
