I offer the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT - tapping) which is like acupuncture but without the needles. You tap on specific parts of your body whilst working on difficult experiences or emotions. It is an evidenced based treatment which means it has a robust body of research demonstrating its effectiveness. It's as effective as CBT. It helps a large variety of difficulties.
It works by activating the parasympathetic nervous system (the system that makes the body relaxed) whilst thinking about difficult things so that the brain then associates the difficulties with relaxation in the future rather than distress.
EFT has been shown to reduce cortisol in the body within just one session. The good thing about EFT is it works very quickly. You will usually experience some relief straight away so I would suggest giving it a try and seeing how you get on.
I work with adults, children and adolescents as a Highly Specialist Clinical Psychologist in the NHS.
I have 20 years experience working with mental health difficulties in the NHS (currently Tameside and Glossop CAMHS).
