Do you feel sometimes that words are not enough when trying to understand or express what you feel? Maybe there is a sense that you can't get to the heart of the problem, whether you are feeling stressed, stuck, bored, alone, sad or depressed? Perhaps your emotions feel too big, you fear getting lost in them, or you don't know where to start. Or maybe you sense that your feelings live more in your body, than your mind and so you struggle to articulate them. Sometimes it is hard to open up to another human being in a way which truthfully reflects how you really feel or the complexities of your life.

I help people look at all aspects of their lives, relationships, identities and I have experience of helping people with depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, ADHD, childhood abuse, loss, trauma, drug and alcohol use and other addictions.
I believe that every person has their own unique story. What happens in our lives as our story unfolds shapes who we are, how we see and experience the world and how we feel about it and fit within it. Counselling can help people discover who they are, learn about their relationships, understand past events, help them get a deeper understanding of themselves, who they are and learn new ways to live their lives. Counselling can help people change from feeling that their story is being written for them and learn how to start writing it for themselves.

As a CBT therapist and midwife I really understand the barriers you might feel asking for help during the perinatal period (pregnancy, birth or postnatally). Many people struggle to talk about their anxiety, depression or doubts and worries about being a parent. You might feel judged or that you have failed in some way and there can be a real sense of pressure to feel positive throughout, making it sometimes feel really hard to admit you are struggling, so I understand just how significant asking for help is. Reaching out is positive and is the first step towards recovery - of your sense of self, your self worth and your wellbeing.

I am a qualified psychotherapeutic counsellor with experience working with adults and 11-18 year olds. My approach is non-clinical as I want to provide a space where you can be yourself, feel relaxed, and explore you're issues with me in ways you find the most helpful. Feeling anxious or depressed can seem part of who we are and it can be difficult to imagine life could be any other way.
I am a BACP accredited psychotherapist with over 10 years experience. I have a special interest in how childhood experiences can continue to affect us in adult life. You may be going through a particularly difficult situation: separation, trauma, or other huge life change or you may just have the feeling that something isn’t quite right without knowing how or why. My approach is grounded in analytic theory though I am also influenced and have trained in attachment and trauma based approaches and work in a relational way.

I've been counselling since 1989, and have extensive experience of working with sexual abuse and trauma, parenting and attachment difficulties, identity and relationship issues, depression and anxiety, bereavement and loss. I don’t claim to be an ‘expert’ in any of these areas because everyone's response is different and what matters is you and your own unique experience of these difficulties. I am committed to collaborating with you to find the resilient, hopeful part of yourself that becomes expert in managing your challenges and is motivated by the smallest signs of progress towards your preferred future.

Depression Counsellors
Depressive disorders are characterized by persistent feelings of sadness and worthlessness and a lack of desire to engage in formerly pleasurable activities. Depression is not a passing blue mood, which almost everyone experiences from time to time, but a complex mind/body illness that interferes with everyday functioning. It not only darkens one's outlook, it is commonly marked by sleep problems and changes in energy levels and appetite. It alters the structure and function of nerve cells so that it disrupts the way the brain processes information and interprets experience.

Despite feelings of hopelessness and worthlessness, depression is a treatable condition. It can be treated with psychotherapy by depression counsellors in Worthing. As with many illnesses, the earlier treatment begins, the more effective it can be and the greater the likelihood that recurrence can be prevented.

Psychotherapy addresses the thinking patterns that precipitate depression, and studies show that it prevents recurrence. Drug therapy is often helpful in relieving symptoms, such as severe anxiety, so that people can engage in meaningful psychotherapy.
