Thank you for reading my profile. Counselling is a talking therapy, allowing you to work through issues that are affecting you and change your life for the better. It is based on a personal, empathetic, non-judgemental relationship between you and the counsellor. Within this relationship you can explore what is going on in your life, gain insight into your feelings, and better understand your behaviours and thinking patterns. This can help you to come to terms with past experiences, develop better ways of coping, help overcome depression or anxiety, and challenge and change unhelpful ways of thinking.

Anxiety, depression and assertiveness are the main three difficulties I help clients with.
Life is not straightforward and sometimes overwhelming. Often we know what our difficulties are, sometimes we don't. I offer a friendly, supportive environment in which to talk about what matters most to you, and find ways to move forward. I am a psychotherapist working for Prohealth UK (www.prohealthuk.org) and privately. I have worked in varied settings, providing psychotherapy services for NHS patients, Staffordshire Fire & Police Service, Staffordshire County Council, East Staffs Borough Council, Salford Hospital and local charity.

Specialising in stress, anxiety and depression, my aim is to provide a safe space for you to explore your situation and develop a way through your difficulties, and in doing so, create healthy coping skills which you can use after our work together is complete.
Hello, my name is Selina, & I imagine that you are reading this because you are seeking support for your well-being or enquiring for someone close to you. We are now living in unprecedented times of uncertainty, trying to hold down jobs, fear of redundancy, over working, and supporting our children and partners. All this can easily lead to an imbalance in our mental & emotional wellbeing.

My counselling experience developed prominently in areas of grief, loss, depression, social anxiety, sexual abuse, bullying, self-harm, suicidal thoughts and trauma.
The essence of my therapeutic work with adults, children and young people is to facilitate self-growth by helping you identify the core challenges and difficulties in your life so that you can overcome them with confidence. Reaching out for help, searching for answers or meaning of life it's never easy. So, please, let me applaud you for being here. Even if you decide to give this search a miss, my gut feeling tells me you're already one step ahead of whatever is trying to prevent you from fully embracing your life.

Life is an unknown factor, and it may often involve upsetting, stressful, or traumatic events that can negatively impact how we think, feel, and cope day to day. You may have anxiety and depression, and struggle with issues of low self esteem and suicidal thoughts. Or you may have intrusive thoughts and problems controlling your anger and impulsiveness. Whatever your circumstances, I can help you to understand and interpret your thoughts and feelings in a safe and non-judgmental space, whether you are facing new troubles or struggling to cope long term

I am now seeing clients face to face. If you require telephone or zoom please also contact me. At times in our life we may feel overwhelmed with our feelings and struggle with our life, work, relationships or family. It’s helpful to speak to someone who is unbiased, who doesn’t have any other agenda than to help you to feel better. My clients engage with me when they are feeling unhappy or helpless in their situation and require a caring and safe place to work out what they need to find peace in their lives.

Life is tough. Sometimes we get to a point where we need a helping hand to guide us through. There are infinite reasons what may bring you to therapy; relationship breakdown, bereavement, a sense of loss of control, addiction, bullying, redundancy, the list goes on. Although we cannot change the past, using the sessions together we can explore where to go from here. Therapy is a collaborative process. Everybody is an individual and I will work with you as the expert on your own life; offering support, challenge, empathy and compassion along with the space to explore your own experience, which is so rarely possible in our daily lives

Depression Counsellors
Depressive disorders are characterized by persistent feelings of sadness and worthlessness and a lack of desire to engage in formerly pleasurable activities. Depression is not a passing blue mood, which almost everyone experiences from time to time, but a complex mind/body illness that interferes with everyday functioning. It not only darkens one's outlook, it is commonly marked by sleep problems and changes in energy levels and appetite. It alters the structure and function of nerve cells so that it disrupts the way the brain processes information and interprets experience.

Despite feelings of hopelessness and worthlessness, depression is a treatable condition. It can be treated with psychotherapy by depression counsellors in Lichfield. As with many illnesses, the earlier treatment begins, the more effective it can be and the greater the likelihood that recurrence can be prevented.

Psychotherapy addresses the thinking patterns that precipitate depression, and studies show that it prevents recurrence. Drug therapy is often helpful in relieving symptoms, such as severe anxiety, so that people can engage in meaningful psychotherapy.
