About
People who embark on a psychoanalytically informed therapy attend for a variety of reasons. Depression, anxiety, relationship difficulties, stress, shame or low self esteem, what is important is that the problems have been around for some time and despite our best efforts do not improve by trying to address them on our own. This leaves us feeling stuck and alone, with increasing symptoms and frustrations. The aim of this type of therapy is to not only to help with the conscious symptoms, but to help develop understanding and awareness of what lies beneath the symptoms, enriching our lives and relationships, enabling change.
People who embark upon this type of therapy wish to deepen their understanding of themselves, their relationships and the emotional difficulties that we face that are an inherent feature of living. Therapy offers the opportunity to explore through the therapeutic relationship any thoughts and feelings that cause such distress, pain and unhappiness.
The relationship with the therapist develops within a structure allowing both conscious and unconscious thoughts and wishes to be expressed within the safety of the therapy setting. Awareness of how unconscious life and inner beliefs keeps determining our lives emerges in a live way with the therapist which can then be understood allowing for real change.
