I don't believe I have an ideal client. I just think anyone that has the courage to come to therapy and face up to the challenges they are facing is the kind of client I want to work with.
I work in a relational style, aiming to build a strong relationship as the foundation of therapy. It is so often a struggle to find relationships that allow us to open up and really hear and meet our needs. As a result, I try to notice things like body language, tone and instinct to understand what is happening but also to make sense of life.
Where else are you going to find someone to talk to about all the things that no one else can make any sense of? Therapy is necessary to unpack the story of our lives and give some meaning to who we are today. Often, the fear of judgement or just the realities of time means this exploring doesn't happen.
