There are all sorts of reasons why people come to therapy from complex mental health problems, to struggles with daily life, career, creativity, relationships, and the modern world. Psychoanalytic psychotherapy gives space for all of these and much more, as patient and therapist slowly work to develop an understanding of the patient and those parts of themselves that may be hidden from view. It is slow, often challenging, work, but hopefully also interesting, rewarding and of significant benefit to one's wellbeing. It starts from the belief that all aspects of your life matter and are worthy of thought and enquiry.
My first priority is to offer a safe non-judgemental space, which fully recognises the challenges of opening up to a stranger and the building of trust. The pace of work is set by the patient, although as I am training within the field of psychoanalytic psychotherapy I will offer gentle encouragement to consider dreams, early life, and unconscious processes.
I work either online or in person in rooms at my training organisation (AGIP) in Archway. I see patients either once or twice a week at an agreed regular time. Initial meetings are an opportunity for us to see if we feel that we are a good fit and to explore what a working relationship might look like. As a trainee I am happy to offer reduced fees.
