I love working with people, getting to know you and hearing your story. I believe that we are all unique. One of the things I love most about my work is the privilege of seeing someone begin to thrive and to enjoy their life again. I love helping to find some inner calm, clarity of thought and to be practicing self compassion as part of their everyday lives. I work in a bespoke way, tailor making my approach to each person. However, that said, everyone's needs compassion and so a compassion focused therapy approach runs through all of my work. I am most definitely a human first and a psychologist second.

My name is Ellie Pulley, and for the past 10 years I have been working with individuals to help them have a greater understanding of ‘self’ and for them to overcome their distresses in life which may be holding them back. There is often a reason why we are feeling a certain way, however sometimes we might feel lost in knowing exactly what or why that is. My approach is down to earth and informal, and it is my job to accompany and support you on your journey in finding your own answers, which you may not have had the opportunity to discover yet.

At the other end of the spectrum are some who may have feelings of dissatisfaction a sense that they are not getting all they want in their lives. I believe that all of us want to strive to be happier and more fulfilled than we currently are. I enjoy working with many different client issues but particularly those that are trauma related. I believe that we all have the potential to bring about positive change in our lives whatever our past experiences and therefore I always seek to provide hope. It is a particular delight to work with clients who reflect on the sessions between appointments however I am aware that for many individuals attending sessions can be well outside their comfort zone. I therefore adopt a gentle, encouraging approach allowing clients to work at their own pace.

Your voice, your experiences, your thoughts, your feelings matter. Most importantly YOU matter. As your therapist, I understand that there is not a one size fits all approach to counselling. Your experiences are unique to you and together we can work with an approach and pace that works for you so you can get the very best out of therapy. I am here to listen and support you though whatever it is that you are finding difficult without judgement. No matter what anyone else has told you, if it is important to you, it is important to me too. Your Story Matters.

Life doesn't really go as expected and finding the right support is key to move forward. I use Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) in combination with Systemic therapy allowing a tailored approach based on clients needs. CBT is aimed to support clients identifying the triggers and the dynamics that hide behind their difficulties, learning coping strategies to deal with them. Systemic therapy is often considered an approach to treat families and groups however, it also effectively apply to individuals.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counsellors are all licensed mental health professionals. In many countries, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counsellor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counsellors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counsellor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counselling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
