You may be finding life tough, finding it hard to put your finger on what’s causing distress. General feelings of sadness and low self-esteem may be making it difficult to see who you truly are. Your sense of purpose may be ebbing, or indeed gone altogether. Instead, there may be a constant, nagging feeling of wishing things were different. But not knowing what that different looks or feels like. Whether or not it even exists. Do you feel your voice is being smothered by work pressures, or your personal aims are being crushed? The overwhelming anxiety that seems to dictate your every thought and move...

I offer counselling with a warm, genuine and non-judgemental approach, with our relationship at the core of the work we do together, which can be long or short-term depending on your needs. I work with adults and young people through a range of issues including anxiety, depression, self-esteem, issues around sexuality and identity, relationships, abuse, health and bereavement. I also work with psychosexual issues after gaining a Certificate in Psychosexual Therapy accredited by COSRT at Level 5. I have a particular interest in peri/post-natal health. I am able to work face-to-face, online or over the telephone if preferred.

In a world full of stress, anxiety and depression life can at times be very challenging. Generally we are able to manage these challenges unaided. Sometimes, however, we may need some support and help. I am passionate about my work and see counselling as a tool for you to use to help create change towards living a more enriched, fulfilled and meaningful life. My aim is to offer you a safe, non-judgemental, confidential space where you can explore and make sense of your difficulties, whether they are emotional or relational.

Perhaps you're finding it hard to cope with the things life throws at us as we grow older? It could be dealing with growing children, managing and worrying about ageing parents, experiencing grief or even work issues. You might feel stressed, anxious or even doubting your ability to cope? Perhaps there are physical signs that you might need help, such as trouble getting to and staying asleep, feelings of sadness, a lack of energy or losing your temper with those around you. All my clients are unique, but they all share a desire to feel better as soon as possible.

Life not turned out how you had expected or hoped? Something not sitting right? A niggling thought or unrest within you? Happiness feels out of reach? Having experienced my own, at times, bumpy journey it has given me a fierce and unshakeable belief that change is possible in us all and we all have the potential to have a life beyond our wildest dreams! That’s not always to say we get what we may have fantasised about but that we work on ourselves; and as we embark on this our dreams change and they become reachable as we become more teachable and learn about the authentic us and what we really want

I provide the space for you to make the changes you want. Where you can talk through your thoughts, feelings, experiences and concerns, free from judgement. For some, this is in a therapy room and for others this can be outdoors. You choose the space to suit you. I focus on helping you to heal and re-energise. To become aware of personal strengths and also the barriers that may be holding you back. Together we work on how you can move forward with new knowledge and skills to live a more authentic and meaningful life going forward. To help you grow from your struggles, heal from your pain, and move forward to where you want to be.

My counselling service is consciously focused toward men, providing a space to feel safe and supported to work through issues. It's often a misconception that 'men don't talk about feelings', rather that men don't know that counselling can be for them too. Some of the reasons to come to counselling include; Sex or Relationship Issues, Questioning or coming to terms with Sexuality, Work Issues, Bullying, both emotional or physical, Anxiety, Depression, dealing with loss and bereavement. I am a fully qualified Person Centred Therapist and registered member of the BACP.

If you are struggling with intense feelings of fear, anxiety and sadness and if you find yourself full of panic, despair and frustration you may be trying to understand why you are trapped in these feelings much of the time. If you ruminate on situations, worry about past events, struggle to connect to those in your life and find your days consumed by worry, anger and stress, then a period of therapy may help you to gain insight into the origins of your emotional distress.

How can I find a therapist in CT21?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In many countries, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counsellor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counsellors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counsellor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counsellors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
