At various points in our lives we may find ourselves needing a little extra support. Sometimes the only way to get a handle on a problem is to share it with a complete stranger in the knowledge that you will not be judged, but supported toward reaching your goals. Whether those goals are to understand yourself better, increase your confidence or self-esteem, move on after divorce or bereavement or to begin to move past traumas and understand what is holding you back in your current life. I am here to help you explore what is happening for you right now.

If you have come to a point in your life where things have become too much and you feel you or a member of your family need some extra support, then counselling is a great way to reach out. Through building honest, trusting relationships, I aim to help my clients understand and overcome their difficulties while developing tools to help them in the future. I am an integrative counsellor, which means I draw from a number of different approaches to counselling. This allows for an open space where we can find the best way of working which suits you. This might include creative work, sharing my knowledge on theory or using mindfulness.

Too many people still think they need to "suffer in silence". There's a strongly-held belief, especially among men, that it's not OK to talk about emotions, about problems in relationships, or about those moments when we feel overwhelmed. I've worked with many clients who come to counselling as a last resort, not really believing it can help them. But thousands of people out there have found that talking does make a difference. If you've been wondering whether it could make a difference for you, contact me for an introductory appointment, to see whether counselling is right for you.

You come to me because you desire impactive integrative counselling and psychotherapy with aspects of personal coaching and mentoring. My approach is predominately analytical, seeking to identify and treat the causes of symptoms, both conscious and unconscious. Such insights reduce repeated patterns of thinking and behaviours that cause depression, anxiety and other mental health issues. With a background in philosophy, linguistics and the law we use a socratic but person-centred approach which established what you want to achieve before agreeing a bespoke plan for treatment.

There's a first time for everything. Most newcomers to counselling & psychotherapy start out feeling a little intimidated by the idea of this rather mysterious process. I aim to demystify what I do - clients often comment on what they describe as a down-to-earth and accessible approach. My aim is ultimately to help you understand yourself and your behaviour. I feel that goal is best achieved by working in a non-threatening, straightforward and inclusive way.

I hold a BA(Hons) in integrative relational counselling and a registered member of BACP. I have a number of years of experience working in the charity and private sector, supporting clients with a wide range of emotional issues. At the heart of my counselling practice is the aim to provide a space where you can come to breathe, to be, and find unconditional acceptance, positive reflection and discover alternative narratives and perspectives for yourself. A relationship that enables that to occur, allows for the development of self-awareness, self- acceptance, hope and healing.

We are all unique but our shared humanity means that we all struggle. With over 40yrs experience of working in mental health I have learnt that one of the most helpful interventions for a human in distress is to help them clarify their values and to use this information as leverage to facilitate the inevitable behavioural change that is needed for a life lived well. I have found that combining CBT with Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) promotes symptom reduction but also helps patient's to reconnect with what is important in their lives. If you're reading this I'm guessing you're feeling stuck-maybe I can help with that.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In many countries, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counsellor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counsellors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counsellor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counsellors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
