Many people come to therapy to explore particular features of themselves or their relationships that are troubling or distressing. Others have a specific issues they want to look at and perhaps change. Coming to therapy or couple counselling may feel daunting especially when feeling confused, depressed, anxious or upset. By processing painful or traumatic experiences, looking at relationship dynamics, addressing unconscious or limiting aspects of behaviour, potential new ways of coping with life's issues can often be found.

My name is Angela and I am a qualified, registered and insured counsellor. Coming to see a counsellor can feel like a big step. Speaking about our struggles is not easy, and can still be taboo in many ways. I feel strongly that people can access support when needed. There is only so much we can manage on our own and sometimes our closest relationships are too close to help us see more clearly. Counselling offers a reflective space to explore aspects of your life or patterns that seem to repeat.

Hi, my name is Liz. Welcome to my profile. I work with clients to help them really understand why they are thinking, feeling and behaving in the way they are. Past and present events and experiences influence how we feel about and therefore treat ourselves which then impacts on all relationships in our lives. By understanding where these thoughts come from and why you may have such huge emotional and physical reactions or equally such suppressed feelings you can change the way you behave towards yourself and others. I would like to help you make the changes you need so that you can lead a healthy, happy and fulfilling life

I am here for you if you're going through something that's difficult, confusing or unbearable (on your own or as a couple/relationship). No matter how hopeless it feels, bring it to the safety of our therapy room and together we'll find a way forward for you. Therapy with me is a space to slow down, feel safe, and expand your awareness so you can find a way through. It's also a place to experiment, take risks, and even be rebellious. You might discover parts of yourself that you couldn't see before, like the roots of a tree. As an LGBTQ+ therapist, respect for Gender, Sexual and Relationship Diversity is at the heart of my work.

We all have times in our lives when we find it difficult to cope, causing us issues such as anxiety, depression, stress, feelings of emptiness, loneliness, anger and relationship problems. I offer a place to work out what is actually going for you, in a safe, non-judgmental and confidential space. Sometimes we are aware of issues that are causing our distress and sometimes not. Being able to work out exactly what is going on for each of us as an individual, can be the key to change.

'Should I go to therapy?' This question may take some time to contemplate before you decide that you are ready for counselling or psychological therapy. When any type of mental health or emotional concern affects your daily life and function, therapy can help you work through the difficulties you are experiencing. You do not have to be diagnosed with a mental health problem to benefit from therapy. Many people in therapy seek help to talk through life challenges such as relationship problems, grief, parenting difficulties, or family struggles.

There are different times in our lives when we may encounter challenges in our emotional world. Transition and change can sometimes trigger these challenging feelings. For example, moving home or employment, changing relationships or friendships; life changes such as going to university or reaching age milestones. Any of these can significantly affect the way we feel about ourselves. We react in different ways to what we encounter in our environment. We might become depressed or overwhelmed by intense emotions or we might feel anxious and unable to engage in social activities. It can all become too much to manage alone.

With coping skills or coping mechanisms, we learn to overcome issues like stress, depression, anger or anxiety.

Pro-active coping involves dealing with a problem by using constructive coping activities such as planning, confrontation, self-control and restraint. Overuse of coping mechanisms, like avoiding problems or working obsessively, can exacerbate the weakness.

Emotion based coping skills reduce symptoms by addressing our feelings e.g. discussing the issues, distraction, relaxation, reframing or humor can all help. But negative coping mechanisms, which tend to be impulsive, like denial, projection, rationalisation, repression or wishful thinking can make the underlying problem worse.

Some coping methods are more like bad habits than constructive life skills e.g. drinking and drugs. Other examples might include skin biting, nail biting or hair pulling (trichotillomania).

If you find it hard to cope or are having trouble coping, counsellors in BN2 can help develop constructive coping skills for children, coping skills for kids and life coping skills.

If you're looking for help with coping skills in BN2 or for a BN2 coping skills counsellor, these professionals provide coping strategies. They include BN2 coping skills counsellors, coping skills psychologists, coping skills psychotherapists and coping skills counselling.

How can I tell if a counsellor is right for me?
Counsellors and therapists in BN2 are able to work with a wide range of issues.

For example, you can find CBT Therapists in BN2 who focus on a specific issue, as well as DBT Therapists in BN2 who help clients with new skills to manage their emotions and relationships.

If you're seeking a marriage counsellor in BN2 you'll find that most therapists are trained in marriage counselling or couples counselling in BN2 and couples therapy. And they welcome families for family counselling in BN2 or family therapy in BN2.
