I began as an anthropologist, seeking to understand other people's cultures from their own perspectives. Then my desire changed to facilitating direct positive shifts in other people's lives; lives spoilt by trauma, depression, anxiety, abuse, persecuted sexuality and lack of life direction. My work is now with private clients across anxiety and mood problems - generalized anxiety, OCD, PTSD, psychosexual problems and depression. I also work in depth on relationship problems which often link with anxiety. In Islington Mind I worked with LGBT clients including asylum seekers persecuted for their sexuality.

Are you looking for a safe space with an experienced trauma-informed therapist? I offer CBT & EMDR to mothers and parents to tackle low self-esteem, anxiety, & trauma/ PTSD. Perhaps you are having strong reactions to things, or maybe you are struggling with anxiety, intrusive thoughts, or nightmares. You might be having trouble sleeping or issues with food or body image. Maybe you feel disconnected, irritable, guilty, and not the parent/ partner/ person that you want to be. When things feel tough, working with someone who you feel 'gets it' and knowing the space is safe and free from judgement is really important.

I draw on my experience and training in CBT, IPT and DBT to provide personalised therapy which is as unique as you are.
I am experienced in working with people from many different walks of life. My passion is working with those who (like me) are part of the LGBTQ+ community, who are experiencing difficulties with their mental health and feel ready to make changes to improve how they are feeling. As LGBTQ+ people we can face more challenges from the world around us, which can contribute to difficulties leading to struggles with our mental health. This could be low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, OCD, PTSD and other common mental health disorders.

I'm an integrative practitioner, working from a humanistic base with training and experience in CBT.
All are welcome, however I have particular experience in working with young adults, and those experiencing change as a result of significant life shift (bereavement, a new job, leaving home, the end of a relationship), and how that relates to new identities, confidence, autonomy and relationships . I see our minds and emotions as deeply connected to our bodies, our environments and our lived experiences, and bring a whole life attitude to my counselling work. I am LGBTQIA+ friendly, and experienced with neurodivergence.

My way of working is somewhat dependent on you and your wants from a therapy space. I am trained to work with CBT, person-centred and attachment based therapy. I have done additional training in: Somatic Abolitionism, Emotional Regulation Skills and CBT adapted to work with those that self-define as autistic. I have worked with many clients and believe therapy works best by meeting the client where they are and towards what they identify they need. I work openly with race and other forms of systemic oppression in therapy and support clients from minoritised identities to explore this in therapy.

My approach is informed by well-established therapies, drawing on humanistic and relational principles as well as neurobiology, attachment theory, mindfulness, compassion-focused therapy and CBT.
Are you struggling with challenging emotions, anxiety, low mood, low self worth? Do you find yourself caught up in patterns of overthinking? Maybe you feel stuck in a situation, unable to make change happen, or find yourself in a period of change and re-evaluation. My role is to help you find a pathway to understanding and change. Our work together might simply be talking, exploring how you feel just now, your values and your sense of self, understanding yourself better or making sense of situations and events. Or we might work with emotions and patterns that come up in our sessions and weave in other approaches if they are helpful.

Seeking help in counselling is often a very difficult step to take. With this in mind I always work at your pace and with no judgement or 'advice giving'. You are the expert on your life and together we can work to find a way through. I strive to create a safe inclusive space where all are welcome.

I use Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and counselling.
I'm a Counselling Psychologist. I provide therapy for a wide range of difficulties including anxiety and depression. Appointments with me take place at a nature reserve near St Neots. During these walk and talk appointments we'll walk around the reserve. You'll have the benefits of being outside and some people find it easier to talk about difficulties using walk and talk appointments. I also offer telephone appointments. I provide a free 30 minute telephone conversation to find out what help is needed and to answer any questions. Having a conversation can also help you decide who you would like to start therapy with.

Cognitive Behavioural (CBT) Counsellors

How does cognitive behavioural therapy work?

Cognitive behavioural therapy works by exploring how your thoughts affect your emotions and experiences. CBT helps you identify distortions in your thinking. For example, you may tend to jump to the worst case scenario catastrophising or think in extremes (all-or-nothing thinking). A therapist can teach you how to push back against those thoughts to ultimately change your feelings and behavior for the better. They can also provide coping skills to better deal with stressors and challenges.

When do I know to seek treatment with cognitive behavioural therapy?

It’s reasonable to consider cognitive behavioural therapy if you struggle to manage difficult emotions or behaviors to such an extent that you are not getting the most out of life on a day-to-day basis. If you want a shorter term, concrete, skills-based approach, CBT is a great option. (By contrast, other types of therapy may devote more time to exploring your past and its effects.) The decision to seek CBT also depends on the condition you’re treating; CBT is an effective treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, and many other disorders.

How can I find a cognitive behavioural therapist for someone else?

To find a cognitive behavioural therapist for someone else, you may want to begin by discussing the person’s problem, researching cognitive behavioural therapy, and assessing whether the approach is the right fit. You could then reach out to a few cognitive behavioral therapists in this directory, explain the scenario, have a consultation with those available, and determine who could be a good match.

Why is CBT such a popular form of therapy?

CBT has become a popular form of therapy because it is effective and accessible. Robust research has demonstrated that CBT is an effective treatment for many mental health conditions. And CBT can be learned in relatively few sessions, which means that many people can engage in the process, afford it, and see results quickly. It involves learning concrete skills such as disputing unhelpful thoughts; these skills can also be taught and spread widely.
