My approach draws strongly from principals of CBT, IPT, and systemic therapy, whilst remaining compassionate to one’s needs.
Personal challenges occur through every stage of life, and they can be difficult to manage alone. In fact, our emotions can lead us to push others away, and isolate ourselves when we may be most in need. Tuning in to how we feel and asking for support is an important first step, and through an initial session we can understand your feelings and perspective and think together about a way forward; importantly this can be your opportunity to see if I am the right ‘fit’ for you. I seek to create a safe and confidential space, developing a trusting relationship so that together we can approach and reach your goals.

I am a "no fluff" therapist trained predominantly in CBT, Schema Therapy and Couples Therapy.
We are all bound to experience relational wounds, whether that happens in our attachment relationships with parents or later on in life in our romantic relationships. Sometimes we can integrate these wounds as part of life, but often they leave scars that impact our day-to-day life and future relationship dynamics. The hurt and pain experienced can affect our sense of self and it can create abandonment and other trauma-based responses. How we try to cope with our pain often causes more problems. Therapy with me helps you heal these wounds so that you can build loving, safe, and secure relationships with yourself and others.

I use a mixture of CBT, Counselling, ACT, Family and Systemic Therapies, with the odd bit of coaching thrown in the mix, (where there are work issues).
I work with young people and adults who are experiencing high levels of stress and anxiety; sometimes feeling overwhelmed, low in mood or lacking in confidence. You may have had upsetting experiences that you are trying to process, or finding it difficult to get on with people close to you? Some of my clients are feeling overwhelmed at work, and looking for support. When we meet, I will listen carefully to try to understand why you may be struggling and what changes you would like to make. After the assessment we will make a clear plan of what you would like to achieve and what a successful outcome from therapy looks like.

I am mainly a humanistic existential therapist, but also have a diploma in CBT skills.
I have helped clients with mild mental health issues such as general stress to higher needs such as schizophrenia and personality disorders. I would say my expertise lies mostly with anxiety, depression and self-esteem issues. I work with the clients goals in mind, at their own pace and ability. No two clients are the same and adjust my skills accordingly. Whether you’re looking for small changes in perspective, understanding or attitude, or you want a deeper more meaningful change in thinking, behaviour and habits I am willing to walk that journey with you.

I am a Counselling Psychologist and I work in an integrative and holistic way, accounting for both the mind and the body, drawing on different therapeutic approaches in order to meet my client’s needs. However, I tend to use the psychodynamic perspective centrally in my practice, focusing on making key links between the past and the present; this also means that I take into special consideration attachment based wounds, the unconscious factors contributing to the development and maintenance of difficulties as well as the ways in which we relate to ourselves and to others.

Navigating today's world doesn't get any easier, does it? Social media tells us how to look and feel and yet many of us can end up feeling shamed and inadequate. We may have goals we want to achieve yet it's all too easy to feel discouraged, out of control, and feel we will never get there. Sometimes the only thing we feel we can have control over is our eating or other addictions. But this usually leads into a downward spiral. What my clients have found is that by joining me in a course of psychological therapy they can unravel the twists and turns they have found themselves in.

Hello, I'm Sam, an accredited psychotherapist and counselor specializing in working with adults in North West London and online. Together, we can navigate the challenges you may be facing, whether it's stemming from a traumatic event, a complex childhood with experiences of neglect and abuse, or to work on patterns that you notice might be blocking you reaching your goals. A common thread of depression and anxiety often lead people to initiate their therapeutic journey, or perhaps you're simply seeking additional support during a phase where you don't feel quite like yourself.

Hi and welcome. I know how daunting it can be to start therapy but we can work together to explore your current difficulties, looking at them through a new lens so you have greater insight and perspective. By building a warm & trusting relationship with you I can enable you to feel heard and understood, make sense of your feelings or maybe understand why you are not feeling, gain greater insight into your inner emotional world, accept those parts of yourself you may not like, help you to manage difficult people and teach you how to turn off your inner 'critical voice' so you become more forgiving and kinder to yourself and others.

I see individual and couple clients with a wide range of issues. They include problems within relationships, parenting issues, bereavement, stress at work, low self-confidence and more. Often a client might feel a loss of hope and meaning in their life; they might have problems regulating their moods or coming to terms with aspects of themselves and decisions they have made. By coming into therapy, they seek to build a trusting relationship in which they open up, explore, let go of difficult emotions and complex thinking and beliefs.

Cognitive Behavioural (CBT) Counsellors

How does cognitive behavioural therapy work?

Cognitive behavioural therapy works by exploring how your thoughts affect your emotions and experiences. CBT helps you identify distortions in your thinking. For example, you may tend to jump to the worst case scenario catastrophising or think in extremes (all-or-nothing thinking). A therapist can teach you how to push back against those thoughts to ultimately change your feelings and behavior for the better. They can also provide coping skills to better deal with stressors and challenges.

When do I know to seek treatment with cognitive behavioural therapy?

It’s reasonable to consider cognitive behavioural therapy if you struggle to manage difficult emotions or behaviors to such an extent that you are not getting the most out of life on a day-to-day basis. If you want a shorter term, concrete, skills-based approach, CBT is a great option. (By contrast, other types of therapy may devote more time to exploring your past and its effects.) The decision to seek CBT also depends on the condition you’re treating; CBT is an effective treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, and many other disorders.

How can I find a cognitive behavioural therapist for someone else?

To find a cognitive behavioural therapist for someone else, you may want to begin by discussing the person’s problem, researching cognitive behavioural therapy, and assessing whether the approach is the right fit. You could then reach out to a few cognitive behavioral therapists in this directory, explain the scenario, have a consultation with those available, and determine who could be a good match.

Why is CBT such a popular form of therapy?

CBT has become a popular form of therapy because it is effective and accessible. Robust research has demonstrated that CBT is an effective treatment for many mental health conditions. And CBT can be learned in relatively few sessions, which means that many people can engage in the process, afford it, and see results quickly. It involves learning concrete skills such as disputing unhelpful thoughts; these skills can also be taught and spread widely.
