Welcome. The therapy relationship can be a powerful space to explore concerns you have been having. It is not unusual to feel nervous or awkward about taking the initial step of seeing a therapist, but end up feeling relieved and pleased at the outcome. I have over 20 years experience in helping people recover the quality of their lives from struggles with mental health. My training is in Counselling Psychology, which means that the therapy process is supported by an understanding of the processes behind different behaviours and how the brain works in relation to mental health.

I think of my practice as a place to tell your story - to talk about concerns or issues from the past or present, or to deal with times of uncertainty or crisis. Clients may wish to get to know themselves better, develop choices, or make new decisions which support them to live the life they want to live.The way in which I like to work is by offering you listening, acceptance and support. I understand that it can feel very difficult to talk about your worries or difficulties to a stranger. I want to offer you a calm and steadying presence who values you and your story as a fellow human being.

Many people seek a sense of peace in their lives. You may experience emotional issues causing distress or you wish to make important changes in your life. Perhaps you have a desire to develop greater balance and calm in your daily life. I work with individuals of all ages and ability, as well as with couples and families with older children. I bring a non-judgemental, collaborative approach to help you nurture, grow, and prosper. For specific goals we find the right steps for you to achieve the success you want. I specialise in the field of unresolved grief, loss and trauma. I use EMDR to treat single or complex post traumatic stress including combat PTSD. I also have experience of supporting the emotional wellbeing of health professionals (or other professions at high risk of vicarious trauma or chronic pressures). Over the last twelve years as a humanistic integrative counsellor, psychotherapist and supervisor in a busy NHS environment, I have also experienced a broad spectrum of clients' concerns and struggles.

“Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?” (Mary Oliver) We all have hopes and dreams for our lives, yearning for loving relationships, a sense of belonging, meaning, purpose and achievement. When these dreams and longings are suppressed or disappointed, we feel a deep-seated sense of despair, anger and anxiety. Some people have experienced these emotions throughout their lives, feeling unable to experience a true sense of connection and belonging. For other people a sudden life event or transition to a new phase of life can trigger a crisis, highlighting what is missing in our lives.

We are all in this together. It’s so big because it’s happening all at once, everywhere. It’s normal to feel fear, overwhelm and disconnect. It can be hard to take a breath and get your feet back on the ground and do what needs to be done. That resource is in you. Having someone to talk to and share your fears with can be really helpful right now, so you don’t have to burden your loved ones. Ultimately, this asks us all to face the limitations of human life and the fact that we die and in this culture that is almost forbidden. I’m willing to look there with you. I am a professionally qualified Integrative Counsellor, experienced in working with young people and adults with a wide range of issues. I have a special interest in stress and anxiety, in how the nervous system works and how it impacts our mental, emotional and physical wellbeing. I use my experience as a Shiatsu practitioner and my mindfulness practice to help my clients to understand how their body and mind are relating to each other and incorporate mindfulness and relaxation exercises into my sessions where appropriate to help manage anxiety symptoms.

I am an experienced registered counsellor. I offer a warm, calm, confidential and non judgmental space for clients to explore thoughts and feelings. I work with a range of issues with both males, females and couples. I also work at SAFE (stop abuse for everyone) and specialise with clients, both male and female who have been through demostic abuse. Whilst I offer therapy for many issues I specialise in working with victims of domestic abuse, control issues, self esteem and lack of confidence.

I am a Counsellor and 'Creative cognitive behavioural therapist'. I have worked within GP surgeries, NHS, Youth enquiry Service and Cruse bereavement care. I have been recently working for the NHS for the last eight years working with clients who experience anxiety and depression and related issues. I love my work and aim to create a trusting atmosphere for clients to explore emotions, thoughts and feelings in a safe environment. I encourage clients to work at their own pace with no pressure or expectation from me enabling them to move forward in their own time.

I provide a range of evidence based psychotherapies to alleviate psychological distress in Devon, my main approach being Intensive Short Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP). Intensive Short term Dynamic Psychotherapy is a highly effective form of psychodynamic psychotherapy designed to help you get to the heart of the matter quickly, and resolve issues fast. The approach is emotion focussed; a relational therapy that can address a wide range of ongoing problems or symptoms. ISTDP is particularly useful in attending to internal conflicts that can arise from interpersonal relationships.

One of the main things that I love about my counselling work is the unique opportunity it gives me to be alongside and encourage you in the good times and bad times. I strongly believe that life should not be a lonely journey and I value the relationship element of counselling above all else. We can all at times be surrounded by others but feel completely alone in our thoughts or our troubles, not wanting to burden those we love. Through my work I have the privilege to travel alongside people as they bravely face their issues, creating with them moments of sanctuary in which they can gain perspective and find their way.

I have worked in the NHS for over 20 years and I realise that therapy can be a new and unusual approach for people. I often work with folk who are finding things hard, and need a neutral form of support. I can offer direct support, teaching and practice in cognitive and behavioural techniques, or relaxation and mindfulness ideas to help. The goals that a person wants to work towards might be crystal clear to them, or they might refine these as we work together.
