Hello, my name is Tina, Life can be overwhelming at times and finding the right counsellor can be daunting, especially when you want to trust someone to talk through personal issues. I can help you to learn to express yourself in a confidential environment. I am non-judgemental, down to earth and supportive with a lot of NHS experiences. Life is not always straightforward, it may feel impossible to move forward and to visualise your potential self. Family and friends can help; however, this may not always be possible, that’s where I can help you find yourself again in a confidential, naturally caring environment.

I know how it feels to lose trust in your inner voice, and I believe passionately that Person-Centred Counselling can be a powerful support to gain back that trust. Perhaps you need help to make sense of the way you were parented. Perhaps you are still struggling with the impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences. Perhaps you have experienced an abusive or toxic relationship, domestic abuse, or major life event that felt like it pulled the rug from under you. Perhaps someone in your life has strong narcissistic traits that have adversely affected you. Perhaps there are a combination of factors that bring you to consider counselling.

I am a Christian working in a person centred way.
Life is overwhelming at times and it's just good to talk about what's going on. I like to work with you to find your own answers, to understand what is going on for you. We don't always know what we are thinking or feeling until we say it out loud. In order to do that you need to be able to trust who you are talking to. Nobody likes feeling judged or being told what to do!

Hi, my name is Jane Blackburn. If you're reading this, you’ve probably found that life isn’t always as straight-forward as we’d like and that it can really take a toll on each of us. I have experience supporting people facing all sorts of challenges in their lives including: anxiety, stress, depression, panic attacks, difficulties expressing themselves, low self-esteem, and relationship difficulties, to name but a few. I can even support you if you just feel a little bit ‘off’, as though things are ‘not quite right’. The first step towards making a positive change is to ask for help, even if that feels daunting to do.

There are times in our lives when we notice that we don’t feel ok and that we need to move from that place, but don’t know how. In these times, counselling can offer a safe, private and confidential space to notice and share anything which doesn’t feel ok. It offers room to take care of, and notice ourselves. Only you can know best. I feel that through the relationship of counsellor and client we can work to notice or re-notice yourself. We might also find new ways of learning to cope with the pressures of life, or re-find old ways of supporting yourself that you have forgotten. (We can work creatively if you enjoy that).

I work with people online across the UK and 18 years of experience has shown me that confusion, isolation, anxiety, depression, apathy, addictive behaviours and feeling 'stuck' inhibit us from moving forward and achieving a personal sense of well being and purpose. Usually, unravelling past events and clearly seeing the impact of them brings refreshing clarity and often relief. Understanding ourselves, our families and others better is hard work but also life changing. The privilege of my job is seeing positive change happening in and beyond the sessions. New opportunities and increased self-empowerment inevitably follow.

I won't go down the "life struggles" and "finding a better you" route, because if you're looking for a counsellor you know that life is a struggle and you're looking for help. I offer a free initial consultation so that you can decide, without pressure, if you feel you would like to work with me as you get to grips with what has brought you to seek help. I work via zoom or telephone, which means that geographical location, parking and accessibility is less of an issue. I would just like to encourage you because admitting you need help is the hardest part. I am able to offer a limited number of concessionary and evening spaces

Quite often, life will present you with an issue that you find hard to talk about. Attending counselling will take you to a safe and confidential setting where you can be totally yourself. The benefits of counselling are support and being listened to through difficult times. This will develop strategies for coping, the exploration of thoughts, feelings and emotions. It will help you to reveal your potential and to come to a place of acceptance.

Life can be a rough ride. Keeping the balance and moving forward can be a challenge. It can involve stress, anxiety, depression and much more. But I believe through psychological therapies we can learn and, in some cases even master, the art of managing life successfully. To achieve this, I practise an integrative approach that draws strength from various therapies in the field. I am a qualified Psychotherapist at a Doctoral level and I feel confident to deal with complexity . My natural inclination is to help people in need. My recent training and qualifications do enhance my inclination especially to those psychologically unwell.

Why is it important for a therapist to be culturally sensitive?
Therapists and clients don’t need to share the same belief system or background to be able to work effectively together, but a therapist whose training includes a focus on cultural competence may be better able to form a therapeutic bond with individuals from a range of backgrounds, as they will have experience in tailoring their approach to each client—and will be prepared to acknowledge and consider the effects of culture, religion, and other factors on each individual.
Why is it important to find a therapist sensitive to Christian values?
Each person brings a unique history and background to therapy, making it important to find a licensed therapist who is trained in a broad range of treatment modalities. In addition, for people who grow up in a faith tradition that strongly influences the way they conduct their everyday life, finding a therapist who understands or shares that background can ease the disclosure of sensitive information and facilitate the therapeutic process. For some clients, a Christian therapist is likely to incorporate faith-based principles into emotional healing techniques.
How do I recognise an effective Christian therapist?
Christian therapists are licensed mental health professionals—holding a master’s or doctoral degree in medicine, nursing, psychology, counseling, social work, or marriage and family therapy—who are also familiar with Christian beliefs and values. They have an understanding of the importance that Christian principles play in the lives of individuals and families, which allows them to be especially sensitive to the kinds of struggles that can affect daily functioning. Like all effective therapists, a Christian therapist will have undergone training and certification in a variety of treatment modalities that help people through crises and enable them to master the challenges of life.
Why might someone feel comfortable with a Christian therapist?
While training, qualifications, and experience are always important, research has long established that a strong alliance between client and therapist is a major contributor to therapeutic success. An alliance is likely to be strengthened with a therapist who not only is responsive to questions and concerns but also shares a client’s faith and values. Sensitivity to spiritual matters as well as to everyday struggles can provide a welcome sense of safety and contribute to the bond between client and therapist, both of which support the therapeutic process.
Who is included in Psychology Today’s directory of Christian therapists?
The directory of Christian therapists includes professionals who have shared their background in their profiles. However, not all therapists choose to disclose this information, and they may not appear in search results for this reason. The directory also shows therapists who indicate that they have extensive experience working with Christian clients, regardless of their own background or religious affiliation.
