I work with people presenting with a variety of difficulties including depression & anxiety, PTSD, and low self-esteem. These are all big umbrella terms yet in reality each person has their own unique life-story and set of difficulties. I will work with you in a transparent and caring way. I am trained in a modality of psychotherapy that lends itself to empowering and enabling you in a practical and robust sense. I am experienced in providing effective results in both short-term & long term counselling. My focus is on supporting you to achieve what you want to achieve and on creating maximum value for you going forward.

I am a qualified integrative counsellor and CBT psychotherapist working towards accreditation.I work mainly in the humanistic approach, and I also use elements from other approaches such as CBT (cognitive-behavioural therapy) or psychodynamic therapy, which allows me to choose optimal therapeutic strategies for each client individually. The values on which the humanistic approach is based, such as empathy, respect, authenticity and perception of values in every human being, are very close to me. I firmly believe that being truly understood, heard and accepted the way you are can change our lives.

I work with adults using a holistic approach who are feeling stuck. Many people since COVID are struggling with depression, stress, anxiety, and burnout. Some people are turning to alcohol, drugs or other addictive behaviours to cope. Its ok to find life hard. I specialise in working with people who are worrying they aren’t managing their mental health, who may have experienced trauma, and may be self-medicating. I offer an entirely non-judgemental, confidential, compassionate and safe space to talk about some of these things and help you to identify what changes you would like to make. I also specialise in working with ADHD.

Psychotherapy is a very personal journey that will be unique to you. Are there changes that you would like to make in your life and your relationships? Are you wondering how you can make sense of the patterns that keep repeating in your life despite your best efforts?

I can provide counselling with a difference a blend of counselling, coaching and psycho-education. Counselling – gaining an understanding of you, what drives you, what you do, why and how this affects you. Coaching – looking at ways to move forward, gaining solutions for a new way ahead and psycho-education – understanding you in terms of the psychology (as well as) within your relationships and gaining insight into why you find yourself feeling and acting as you do (and possibly how this may affect others). I believe effective therapy means gaining an understanding of you.

Therapy is an investment in your current and future wellbeing. I join my clients in identifying the source of their concerns, and developing positive change. Whether you're struggling with chronic mental health stemming from trauma, or wanting to figure out why life has felt so hard lately, I am ready to listen with care and non-judgement. I have navigated a wide variety of needs with people who've never experienced therapy before, people who've seem to have tried everything, and people somewhere in between. Wherever you are, and wherever you'd like to go, we'll find the way forward.

Couples and individuals are welcome. Perhaps you lack self-esteem, self-worth or have never felt good enough. Does life have little meaning and you don’t understand why? Maybe you’re feeling overwhelmed, not knowing who you really are. We will work together, in a safe and confidential space to explore what has made you, you, and how things might have to change to get you to where you want to be. This can be on a practical, emotional or spiritual level - or any combination. Together, let’s remove the fear and help you move forward to reach your potential and a sense of finally being ‘good enough'. The ‘true you’. Are you ready?

When life gets difficult, the most courageous thing we can do for ourselves, is to reach out for help. Counselling is for anybody making their journey through the challenges of life. You might feel overwhelmed or just a little bit ‘stuck.’ Day-to-day tasks might be a struggle. You might have lost someone – recently or in the past. There might be changes in your life or difficult decisions to be made. Perhaps a past event keeps popping up, influencing the present more than you would like? Counselling can help.

I am a Senior Accredited Member of the BACP having worked for over 20 years in a large GP practice in Saffron Walden. In my new consulting rooms in the centre of town I offer a safe and supportive environment where the well-being of every client is paramount. You may be feeling “flat” or stuck or feel you are just existing. Perhaps you are feeling uncertain or unable to see how things can improve. Counselling can help find new coping strategies, reflect on unresolved grief and loss, build awareness of your thoughts, behaviours and feelings and will help you develop more capacity to deal with the struggles you are facing.

How can I find a therapist in CB21?
Search for nearby therapists or counsellors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counsellors are all licensed mental health professionals. In many countries, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counsellor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counsellors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counsellor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counselling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
