I began my career in counselling in 2006 and studied an OCR certificate in Counselling which was awarded to me in June 2007. Intrigued and fascinated by the work I continued to the stage of training which was Ulster University Diploma in Counselling (with Distinction) and saw my first client in 2008. I qualified as an Integrative counsellor in 2010. As an integrative practitioner, I use a range of theories and techniques to meet the needs of clients, with a range of issues, across the lifespan. I have completed training in creative techniques as well as a Level 5 in CBT (2011) & Level 6 (2018) in Supervision.

Hi, my name is Aisling. I am a registered Art Psychotherapist. In Art Psychotherapy we use a range of creative materials to communicate feelings, emotions and experiences. It’s not necessary to be “good” at art as we don’t focus on the final product. It’s much more important that you are open to the creative process; sometimes how we feel isn’t pretty, so the art we create isn’t pretty either. My aim is to provide a safe and confidential space for you to open up and explore your inner world; my role is to hold space for what may come up for you. I aim to meet my clients where they are, with understanding and connection.

I offer a safe space to talk about anything which may be of concern in your life, which we can then explore at your own pace, to make sense of things, resolve difficult feelings and make positive change. It can sometimes be difficult to talk to family and friends, and having someone to listen without judgement can make all the difference. Counselling can also help us to understand how the past has affected our present life and relationships, helping us to connect to who we really are and to be happier as our true self, which is our human birthright. Counselling can also enable a secure attachment which can help to heal past wounds.

I was in counselling during my mid twenties for trauma, depression and anxiety. I became fascinated by the process. It led to empowerment and growth, which peaked my interest to study myself. Because of my own background and self awareness, I feel this helps greatly within the client - therapist relationship. I like my clients to feel 'heard' and understood. I enjoy working collaboratively with them to attain their own set goals or process feelings around events which may have caused distress.

A therapeutic relationship is essential for optimum treatment and recovery. As a BABCP Accredited CBT therapist, my role is to help the person become their own therapist through utilising the therapeutic relationship. The person is an expert in their own life, thus my role is to help them navigate their difficulties by helping them develop the ability to look at alternative perspectives. In assisting in the treatment of lowered mood and anxiety, CBT helps establish and build upon coping strategies. In doing so we focus on one of the main drivers of mental illness, low self-esteem, as well as other sources of difficulties.

Hello, I'm Sarah. I have 17yrs of experience working as a counsellor within a variety of settings, these include post primary schools, workplace providers(EAP including specialized occupational groups) addiction, bereavement and crisis intervention services. I believe that in therapy 'not one size fits all' and so I have made it my focus to continue to learn and develop my practice. My qualification and experience in the facilitation of reflexive supervision, can be of benefit to supervisees that request cross-professional supervisory support.

I am a BABCP accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapist with experience providing psychological assessment and support to children, adolescents, and adults. CBT aims to provide a reflective model within which we can develop a deeper insight to our experiences and emotions, and to understand the impact of these on our daily lives. Often times, struggles such as anxiety or depression are a maintained by thoughts which have become stuck in negative cycles. CBT helps to identify these negative thought patterns and to challenge them, helping to highlight new perspectives and reduce the negative impact.

If you’re seeking a calm, friendly environment in which to address issues which are distressing or frustrating you and you need someone to offer a warm welcome and show sincere interest in your needs I can provide this space for you and would love to be the person to support you. I’ve worked with many people helping them find solutions to their problems and relief from emotional stress. Counselling provides a place for your voice to be heard, your feelings expressed and new ways of thinking and living to be explored. There can be moments of pain and tears but also moments of great release and insight and even laughter and joy.

How can I find a therapist in BT41?

Search for nearby therapists or counsellors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counsellors are all licensed mental health professionals. In many countries, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counsellor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counsellors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counsellor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counselling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
