Dr Lucy Coonan
Psychologist, PhD, CPsychol
Do you feel low or anxious? Do you worry that you're a failure or not good enough? We all experience thoughts and feelings like these at some point, but perhaps you've noticed a greater impact on your relationships/ work and it's preventing you from living the life you want. I understand that it can be overwhelming to speak to a professional about how you’re feeling. I'm a chartered psychologist providing therapy (ACT) for a range of difficulties including low mood, anxiety, stress, burnout, loss/life transitions and imposter syndrome. My approach is non-judgemental and compassionate and we work as a team in therapy.
We live in a culture that promotes the idea of strong, powerful individuals who live picture perfect lives. There is little room for showing our vulnerability, or our need for connection. There is a cultural expectation that when things are difficult for us we should just 'get over it' and not make a fuss, this might manifest in you with thoughts of "what's wrong with me", "why is this so hard" and "I should be able to manage by myself" and so on! You may be feeling fragmented, disconnected, numb, overwhelmed, fearful, unable to cope, you might feel like giving up.
