There are many different reasons why people seek out a therapist. You may be dealing with difficult life events right now, or are aware that a past traumatic event is still impacting on you. You might feel a sense of unease or unhappiness that affects your relationships, or work or prevents you from getting the pleasure from life that you would wish, or find unruly emotions hard to manage. Psychodynamic therapy pays attention to the patterns that may have developed in your relationship with yourself, others, and the outside world. As we talk you may find resonances with the past, present and future hopes and fears.

Everyone struggles at different times and sometimes it can feel too much for us alone. If you would like to talk with a professional, someone unconnected to your family and friends, I would like to offer my help. I aim to create a warm, safe therapeutic space and will work with you in a way that is guided by you and your needs.

I welcome the messy, confusing and contradictory parts of being human and believe that when someone feels genuinely heard, they begin to hear themselves more clearly too.
What matters most to me is creating a relationship where you can exhale - where you don’t have to keep everything together, or hold your thoughts alone.

I work with adults who are outwardly functioning but feel stuck, disconnected, or caught in repeating patterns, often in relationships, intimacy, or their sense of self. My approach is psychoanalytic and psychodynamic, focusing on understanding difficulties at the root rather than offering quick fixes. I work in a client-led, non-pathologising and inclusive way and have extensive experience with LGBTQ+ and neurodivergent clients. I also work comfortably with questions around sexuality and intimacy, including areas people may feel anxious or ashamed about. Sessions in Hove and online.

I understand how hard getting support can feel; not knowing how talking might help or if you’re ready to let someone share your inner world. Finding the right fit for you shouldn’t also be part of the struggle.
Most people come to therapy to stop hiding. But for Neurodivergent and LGBTQ+ communities, the therapy can sometimes feel like another place where you must mask, explain yourself, or justify your sensory needs.
Whether you’re processing or exploring ADHD/Autism/AuDHD, exploring your gender or sexuality, or just ‘managing’ living in an inhospitable world, I provide a space where you don't have to translate yourself.

Hi, I'm Carly, Founder of Mira Counselling. I specialise in supporting people through stress and burnout, grief and loss, and mid-life transitions including menopause - whether you're experiencing it yourself or supporting someone you love through it.
Having worked in high-pressure corporate environments myself, I understand demands that don't always have a name. Alongside my private practice, I work with a bereavement and women's charity, keeping me closely connected to the people I support.
My approach is collaborative, relaxed, and genuinely human — a space where difficult things can be spoken about honestly.

Why Seek Therapy?
Feeling stuck or overwhelmed? You're not alone. Are you feeling down, unsure about your emotions, overwhelmed, or just need someone to listen and understand you? Many people turn to therapy for various reasons, and often the hardest part is overcoming the belief that our struggles are ordinary and we should just "get on with it." But reaching out can make a world of difference.

Couples Counselling will help you to understand your emotions and discover a new intimacy. I talk to couples every day who are wanting more from their relationships. Some want to renew a long gone passion and others are just fighting to stay together - the answer is often found by looking at new ways to communicate with each other rather than fixing a disagreement. There will be reasons for your behaviour that make sense and I will help you to uncover these throughout our sessions together. You may have an ‘arguing style’ and by looking more deeply, at your inner hurt and anger, we will be able to discover what is really going on.

Free consultation available. My approach blends talking therapy with creative, somatic, and experiential techniques, offering theory-informed ways to understand yourself on a deeper level.
You may be feeling anxious, overwhelmed, disconnected, or stuck, noticing that talking alone hasn’t been enough. Perhaps your body holds pain or fatigue, or you feel out of sync with yourself and others.
I offer a space where you can slow down and explore what’s happening beneath the surface — not to “fix” yourself, but to develop awareness and a sense of choice, honouring mind, body, emotions, and nervous system.

I'm an EMDR Consultant and I offer an initial session where we can discuss your problems, your goals and work out a treatment plan. In EMDR we target specific traumatic experiences and symptoms. A large body of research has found that working at a subcortical level, using EMDR, effectively reprocesses experiences that are stuck in your body and your nervous system. After EMDR you are likely to feel much less dys-regulated.
