Life can feel overwhelming at times. You may be navigating grief, anxiety, or low self-worth, and wondering how to find your way forward. Counselling offers a safe and supportive space to be truly heard, to explore your feelings, and to begin making sense of life’s challenges. Alongside my private practice, I bring experience from volunteering with Cruse Bereavement Support and Place2Be, where I supported children with a range of issues. My earlier career in education, both in the UK and across five continents, has shaped my deep respect for each person’s unique story.

At times, life can feel overwhelming to face alone, yet too difficult to share with those close to us. You may be facing new challenges, feeling stuck with a long-held concern, or adjusting to sudden change or loss. Whatever you are experiencing, sharing your story in a safe, supportive and confidential space can bring clarity, relief and deeper understanding. I offer a compassionate, non-judgemental therapeutic relationship where you are accepted, respected and heard. Grounded in trust, my role is as a fellow traveller, supporting you to explore and reconnect with the answers within you as your need for true acceptance is met.

Having worked as a Counsellor for a number of years, I really believe in both the changes that Therapy can make, as well as the potential and ability that we all have within ourselves for growth and change. Being able to talk openly to someone else in a confidential and accepting setting can be helpful in itself. It can also help in gaining understanding and acceptance, working through difficulties you are facing and helping you to make the changes you wish.

I work with couples and individuals who feel disconnected, unheard, or stuck in painful emotional and relational patterns — often at the point of breakdown. As an Emotionally Focused Couples Therapist, I help couples rebuild trust, improve communication, and rekindle intimacy. With individuals, issues include unresolved childhood experiences, emotional challenges, problematic attachment styles, and relationship dynamics that may be holding them back. My approach is warm, inclusive, and grounded in deep empathy.

At different stages in our lives, we encounter difficulties that prevent us from fully enjoying life. It can be anything from anxiety and depression, to the loss of a person (through death or relationship breakdown), to deeply rooted emotional issues (such as low self-esteem or inability to form relationships). Other times, we are unable to fully explain what is troubling us - we just know that something is. Asking for help can be difficult - finding the right kind of help and support can be more challenging. With each person and difficulty being unique, I tailor my approach to suit each client's needs and communication style.

Does your relationship feel stuck? Are you arguing about the same things, or has the silence between you become harder to bridge? Maybe you're working through an affair, navigating infertility or childlessness, or finding that life changes have pulled you apart rather than brought you closer. In our work together, we'll look at what's happening between you—the patterns that keep showing up, how you communicate (or don't), and what might be underneath the conflict or distance. My approach is collaborative and non-judgmental. I draw on systemic, psychodynamic, and humanistic perspectives to help you understand each other.

Hi, my name is Theresa. If emotions, behaviours or substances you use to cope are just not working for you any more please contact me. Perhaps you feel isolated, misunderstood, unheard or that you are hiding your real self from others. This may express itself in social anxiety, depression, substance use or avoiding difficult conversations. Together we can look at how your past experience continues to affect your present. If appropriate we can also look at developing tools to help you move towards a happier and heathier future. I work actively in sessions asking questions and suggesting links to your past when appropriate.

Our daily lives involve so many demands that it can be an effort to take a break and give some proper attention to our own wellbeing. Talking through your concerns with someone outside your world gives you the freedom to focus on yourself. I will listen with compassion and understanding and I'll get to know your experience of being you. I won’t tell you what to do or what choices to make because you know yourself better than anyone. Together we will explore what you're dealing with, identify what’s not working, and consider what changes you might want to make.

Hi, I’m Daniela, a therapist with 8 years of experience helping individuals and couples build more fulfilling and joyful lives together. Having grown up in a high-conflict environment, I understand firsthand the desire for better communication and connection without constant arguments. My journey led me to train at Tavistock as a systemic practitioner, where I learned that true change happens when we look at relationships holistically—acknowledging the patterns that keep us stuck and the dynamics that shape our lives. Let’s work together to strengthen your relationship, improve communication, and create lasting, positive change.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are members of the main professional associations, mainly the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). Most Psychologists in the directory are accredited members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and/or are registered in the Health and Care Professions Council (HPCP).

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given that professional memberships are not a statutory requirement for psychotherapists and counsellors in the UK, certain qualified professionals or organisations may choose not to maintain such memberships despite possessing the necessary qualifications. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and experience that enable them to do so in the UK. Psychologists have earned a degree in psychology and many are members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and have completed a postgraduate qualification in a specialism. Counsellors and Psychotherapists are not required to have a psychology degree, but to belong to a professional organisation such as the BACP or UKCP, they are required to have completed a training course as well as clinical and supervision hours.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the UK could be between £30 - £60 when seeing a counsellor and £60 - £150 and up when seeing a clinical psychologist. If you have private insurance, your plan may cover some if not all of your sessions. You should contact your insurance provider to determine if they provide coverage for therapy sessions and to determine what, if any, requirements they might have in order for your sessions to be covered, such as a referral from your GP or medical specialist.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. The NHS Talking therapies programme offers free of charge counselling for common mental health problems like anxiety and depression. The service is available to anyone registered with a GP, though you do not necessarily need to be referred by your GP and can refer yourself directly to a Talking therapies service. The service will provide different solutions, including group and individual therapy, for a limited number of sessions which are generally up to six.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Therapists who are part of a professional organisation such as the BACP, the UKCP, or BPS are bound by an ethical framework that requires them to uphold a confidentiality agreement. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there has been participation in a criminal act or act of terror, or if there is potential or known harm to the client or others, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
