Over 25 years of experience of psychotherapy for clients with a wide variety of presenting issues, with a special interest in the treatment of developmental and single incident trauma, as well as life changes and transitions of all kind, including issues of sexual and gender identity. I see anxiety and depression as the result of life circumstances and not 'chemical imbalances in the brain', even though they might result in those. I treat people as individuals, not as diagnoses. I tend to work long-term but can offer short term, symptom focussed treatment.
Relational Transactional Analysis, with a focus on the therapeutic relationship, using cognitive-behavioural interventions where appropriate. Interventions like EMDR for PTSD are offered, including techniques that empower the client to help themselves when they feel overwhelmed. The length and focus of the therapy is jointly agreed upon
I tailor my approach to the individual and work according to the contractual method of Transactional Analysis, which means that both the client and I take responsibility for the process of therapy. I am flexible in my interventions, but always focus on the importance of the relational experience.
