You may be feeling weighed down by sadness or a sense of hopelessness, with little energy or motivation for what lies ahead. You might be experiencing ongoing stress or anxiety, feeling disconnected or alone even when others are around. At times, you may notice irritability or anger showing up in ways that don’t feel like the real you, leaving you feeling frustrated or misunderstood. You don’t have to face these experiences on your own. Counselling can offer a supportive space to explore what is happening for you, understand where these feelings may come from, and find healthier ways to cope and move forward. With the right support

Life can be a rough ride. Keeping the balance and moving forward can be a challenge. It can involve stress, anxiety, depression and much more. But I believe through psychological therapies we can learn and, in some cases even master, the art of managing life successfully. To achieve this, I practise an integrative approach that draws strength from various therapies in the field. I am a qualified Psychotherapist at a Doctoral level and I feel confident to deal with complexity . My natural inclination is to help people in need. My recent training and qualifications do enhance my inclination especially to those psychologically unwell.

Life can present us with unwelcome events at any age. Professional counselling can't change these events but can provide tools and techniques to help minimise their impact. In my practise, counselling is primarily about the relationship between you and me.

When someone you love dies, the grief can feel overwhelming. Life might even feel pointless. I can offer you a space to talk about how you are feeling and what is really going on, so that every day does not feel like such a struggle and you can come to terms with your loss. Counselling can be that space to talk about the person who has died and all your feelings with someone who understands and without worrying your friends or family.

Many struggle with overthinking, low confidence, or relationship difficulties, and come to therapy when this starts to impact daily life. When life gets tough we can find ourselves feeling stressed, anxious and overwhelmed. At these times talking to someone else can be helpful to make sense of what is going on. Perhaps you are experiencing loss or bereavement, or a significant transition in your home, work or relationships. Living with uncertainty and change can stir up uncomfortable feelings in us like anxiety, depression, anger or sadness. Whatever is going on for you, I can provide you with the time and space to think things through, and together we will work to make sense of what is going on and find a way forward.

Hi, I’m Nicky. Feeling anxious, stressed, overwhelmed, or stuck, putting everyone else’s needs before your own, or finding it hard to move on from the past? I can help you navigate life’s uncertainties. I offer in-person sessions in Blandford and online, covering Bournemouth, Poole, Dorchester, and across the UK. Together, we can explore your thoughts and feelings at a pace that feels right for you, learning to tune into your inner world so that instead of fearing or avoiding your emotions, they become your guide — like a compass — helping you feel more confident, grounded, and able to move forward in life.

You might be carrying more than feels manageable right now. Perhaps you are feeling overwhelmed, anxious, stuck, or unsure of how to make sense of your experiences. Maybe you have been trying to cope on your own for a long time, or you have reached a point where something needs to shift but you're not sure where to start.  In our sessions you won't have to hold all of this by yourself. You'll have a calm, safe space where you can unpack your feelings at a pace that feels right for you. I blend talking therapy with creative approaches, giving you different ways to express yourself and explore what's going on beneath the surface.

I work with parents/carers who feel emotionally overwhelmed, burnt out, or stuck in patterns that feel hard to change. They may be managing anxiety, stress, low mood, or the impact of past experiences while supporting children with emotional or neurodivergent needs. They want understanding, clarity, and practical support not judgement or pressure and are looking for a calm, trauma-informed space to make sense of what’s happening and find a way forward that feels manageable and compassionate. I also support young people and families using dyadic developmental pareneting approach and PACE (Play, Acceptance, Curiosity and Empathy)

I am a relational integrative therapist. This means that you and I work in partnership to navigate a way to support you to face whichever challenges you would like to overcome. Sometimes this can be achieved through short-term work (up to 12 weeks) and sometimes a contract for much longer work will be what you need. The development of relationship between me (the therapist), and you (the client) is the driving force of how I work. Through the development of a trusted alliance we can begin to explore any vulnerabilities you bring safely in order to make sense of them together.

I am a trauma-informed and experienced (12yrs) Humanistic Integrative LGBTQ affirmative counsellor. I was based at Over the Rainbow Sexual Health Clinic in Bournemouth until 2017. I've facilitated LGBTQ+ and wellbeing groups for Dorset Mind prior to starting my full time private practice. Due to cis, hetero and mono normativity, many LGBTQ+ people haven't felt safe enough to connect with their deepest thoughts, feelings and needs. I provide a safe, informed and affirmative space. I integrate Mindfulness, CBT, CPT, DBT Skills Training, IFS and Emotional Freedom Techniques to address the impact of trauma on the brain and body.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are members of the main professional associations, mainly the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). Most Psychologists in the directory are accredited members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and/or are registered in the Health and Care Professions Council (HPCP).

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given that professional memberships are not a statutory requirement for psychotherapists and counsellors in the UK, certain qualified professionals or organisations may choose not to maintain such memberships despite possessing the necessary qualifications. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and experience that enable them to do so in the UK. Psychologists have earned a degree in psychology and many are members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and have completed a postgraduate qualification in a specialism. Counsellors and Psychotherapists are not required to have a psychology degree, but to belong to a professional organisation such as the BACP or UKCP, they are required to have completed a training course as well as clinical and supervision hours.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the UK could be between £30 - £60 when seeing a counsellor and £60 - £150 and up when seeing a clinical psychologist. If you have private insurance, your plan may cover some if not all of your sessions. You should contact your insurance provider to determine if they provide coverage for therapy sessions and to determine what, if any, requirements they might have in order for your sessions to be covered, such as a referral from your GP or medical specialist.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. The NHS Talking therapies programme offers free of charge counselling for common mental health problems like anxiety and depression. The service is available to anyone registered with a GP, though you do not necessarily need to be referred by your GP and can refer yourself directly to a Talking therapies service. The service will provide different solutions, including group and individual therapy, for a limited number of sessions which are generally up to six.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Therapists who are part of a professional organisation such as the BACP, the UKCP, or BPS are bound by an ethical framework that requires them to uphold a confidentiality agreement. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there has been participation in a criminal act or act of terror, or if there is potential or known harm to the client or others, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
