I have advanced training in supporting survivors of childhood sexual abuse, bereavement and complex Trauma.
Deciding to come for counselling can be a hard decision to make however, it can be very beneficial in improving how you think and feel about the difficulty that you are experiencing enabling you to find a solution that best suits your needs. My aim is to offer a service that is unique to you by actively listening to your concerns in a safe environment that is genuine, understanding and accepting: I acknowledge that it takes courage to ask for this support. I have worked with a variety of different clients, all in different ways, where I endeavour to meet their needs just as I would endeavour to meet yours.

You may have very specific goals you want to address or you may just be curious as to whether or not counselling / psychotherapy can help you. Together we can explore your issues and work in a person-centred way to help you.

Are you struggling with big emotions? Fear, pain, or maybe you feel empty, numb and unable to get going? Do you feel trapped by your relationships, circumstances or suffer with a lack of confidence to make a change? You may be grieving the loss of an important person in your life. Throughout our lives we have many ups and downs, losses and big changes. Sometimes we can feel alone in our problems. You might feel unable to share some of the thoughts and feelings that you’re having with others due to feeling that you may be criticised, ridiculed or misunderstood. Depression can make us feel disconnected from others and alone in life.

Finding a therapist starts with you and your needs. You may arrive with a sense of overwhelm, loss or anxiety, perhaps desiring change but without knowing how or believing you can. We can work together to explore how you feel, think and behave, and find a way to bring you back to your authentic self. I am able to work with adults and older teenagers (16+), as well as those training to be Psychotherapists themselves, and have a broad experience of short and long term work, presenting issues and ages, diagnoses and personalities.

I have experience of working in both the private and voluntary sector, working with the anxiety, panic attacks, stress, depression, grief and loss, relationship difficulties, low motivation, shame, guilt, low self-esteem/confidence, work concerns, post-traumatic stress, childhood abuse.
Hello, thank you for taking time to read my profile, in doing so you've already taken a step towards finding support. My training is in the person-centred approach, which puts the client at the centre of the work we do together. Aspects of the approach are valuing, being genuine, with the counsellor striving to understand your world and experiencing. In life there are times when it becomes hard to cope with the difficulties, worries that come along and we feel the need for someone to listen outside of our family and friends. I offer a confidential, welcoming, relaxing space where you can be yourself, one where we explore your needs.

It’s scary admitting to yourself that you need help; and that you’re struggling with whatever is causing you to feel unhappy or distressed. Due to stigma; people feel that they can only access therapy when they are at breaking point; when in fact you can access counselling whenever you need to. My background is in working with abuse survivors; adults and children; and those who have experienced trauma. As a result I work with depression, low self esteem, shame, loneliness, hopelessness, grief & loss, anger, self harm and suicidal feelings as well as a broad range of other factors and experiences clients bring to their sessions.

Bereavement Counsellors

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
