We can all experience difficulties with how we are feeling at times. This can be made worse by circumstances in our lives or particularly stressful situations. If the difficulties feel like they are persisting and you need support I can help with: Anxiety, including social anxiety, generalised anxiety, separation anxiety and panic, low mood and depression, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) or dealing with traumatic experiences, including Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). It may be that the difficulties you are experiencing overlap and this can be common.

Taking the first step into therapy can feel daunting, especially if you’re used to coping on your own. You might be functioning on the outside, but inside you feel overwhelmed, emotionally drained, or stuck in patterns that are getting you down. If that sounds familiar, you’re not alone and you don’t have to carry it by yourself. Many of the people I work with come to therapy feeling anxious, low, overwhelmed, or disconnected from themselves or others. You may have an idea of what feels wrong, but feel unsure how to move forward, or whether change is possible.

During the past 25 years that I have worked as a Counsellor, I have had the great privilege and opportunity of seeing people's lives change for the better. We all have challenges in our lives and most of the time we manage them through our own resources and with the help of trusted friends and family. There are times however, when we need professional help and assistance. I am able to offer confidential counselling in a comfortable setting. My aim would be to work with you to understand your situation and assist you in finding resolution.

I offer a confidential, warm and supportive environment, so that you may feel comfortable enough to explore what has brought you to counselling. Together we work, at your pace, with what is informing your emotions and responses so that awareness, understanding and change may happen. Conflict within ourselves or in a relationship with others can leave us with a lack of clarity, feeling confused, sometimes anxious and depressed. Loss can leave us overwhelmed. Working with our past and present experiences can enable us to live our life in an authentic and fulfilling way, one which is right for us and a new way of being can be found.

At times life can be challenging and can sometimes feel overwhelming. Finding yourself looking at counsellors it seems you have already made the decision that things need to change. I understand how difficult this first step can be and the courage needed to take the plunge to make that call and ask for help. I can offer you a warm and caring space where you will be supported whilst you start to look at the issues that are troubling you and together we can unravel the emotions and confusion that is holding you back from living a happy and fulfilled life.

In these challenging times you may be experiencing anxiety, struggling to make sense of your world while coping with existing emotional issues. I understand how difficult this can be and offer a safe, confidential space where we can explore the issues or events that have led you to seek counselling. At various stages in our lives we can struggle to make sense of things, whether in our relationships, working lives, due to bereavement or any major life event. This can result in feelings of anxiety, low self esteem, depression and lack of motivation and energy. We may feel our relationships are in crisis and cannot see a way through.

Do you long to experience some peace, freedom and self trust around food? I believe this should be a birthright for everyone. If you are feeling out of control around food and concerned about the size or shape of your body, I get it because I've been there. I now use my professional and lived experience to help others find their way out of the prison of binge eating. I'm sure you have tried many times to gain control of your eating and maybe you're at a point where you're thinking there must be more going on than simply not being able to stick to a diet. Is therapy the answer?

If you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected, you don’t need to have everything worked out to begin therapy — only a sense that something isn’t sitting right. I offer a grounded and thoughtful space to explore what’s happening beneath the surface: anxiety, low mood, relationship challenges, identity questions, or simply a feeling of being lost. Sessions are available in person or outdoors as walk-and-talks, depending on what feels most comfortable for you. I currently have availability during the day and there is a waiting list for evening appointments.

The relationships and experiences that we have, shape the way that we understand the world around. These can make us feel uneasy, and we need to think out aloud. Having an objective ear can help to better understand ourselves. This can be related to personal relationships, our working life, family challenges, life events and many aspects of the world around us. I offer a space that works ethically, and within the boundaries of confidentiality and safeguarding. I aim to support exploration of how challenges and concerns can be overcome in a collaborative way and at your pace. I offer individual counselling.

Hi there and thanks for stopping by on my page. I'd like to play my part in being useful to you in any way possible to help you with any kind of problem you feel stuck with right now. It's doing what's necessary not just in the sense of providing a more immediate sense of relief, and to get some better ways of coping going, but also to get under the skin of the problem more, to get to a likely problem behind the problem, in order that having to cope, or feeling like you have to get away, is less of a proclivity as you're more naturally relaxed in your own skin, more of the time - confident and calmly solving problems you care about.

You might find yourself caught in the same patterns - feeling stressed, anxious, physically unwell, easily triggered, or weighed down by emotions that just don’t seem to move. Perhaps you're navigating a loss, a life change, or a sense of being out of balance and disconnected. Maybe you understand what’s happening, yet no matter how much you try to think it through, something inside still holds on. Our bodies often carry what our minds are ready to let go of. In our work together, we’ll move at your pace, gently listening to what your body is communicating and creating space for genuine, lasting change.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are members of the main professional associations, mainly the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). Most Psychologists in the directory are accredited members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and/or are registered in the Health and Care Professions Council (HPCP).

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given that professional memberships are not a statutory requirement for psychotherapists and counsellors in the UK, certain qualified professionals or organisations may choose not to maintain such memberships despite possessing the necessary qualifications. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and experience that enable them to do so in the UK. Psychologists have earned a degree in psychology and many are members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and have completed a postgraduate qualification in a specialism. Counsellors and Psychotherapists are not required to have a psychology degree, but to belong to a professional organisation such as the BACP or UKCP, they are required to have completed a training course as well as clinical and supervision hours.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the UK could be between £30 - £60 when seeing a counsellor and £60 - £150 and up when seeing a clinical psychologist. If you have private insurance, your plan may cover some if not all of your sessions. You should contact your insurance provider to determine if they provide coverage for therapy sessions and to determine what, if any, requirements they might have in order for your sessions to be covered, such as a referral from your GP or medical specialist.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. The NHS Talking therapies programme offers free of charge counselling for common mental health problems like anxiety and depression. The service is available to anyone registered with a GP, though you do not necessarily need to be referred by your GP and can refer yourself directly to a Talking therapies service. The service will provide different solutions, including group and individual therapy, for a limited number of sessions which are generally up to six.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Therapists who are part of a professional organisation such as the BACP, the UKCP, or BPS are bound by an ethical framework that requires them to uphold a confidentiality agreement. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there has been participation in a criminal act or act of terror, or if there is potential or known harm to the client or others, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
