I have extensive experience working long and short term with LGBTQ+, men of all creed as well as the South-East Asian community.
You may already know what you want from therapy or you may feel that something is not quite right but you’re not sure what. Perhaps you’re looking for help to make sense of your current feelings. Maybe you are feeling painful emotions or want to improve relationships or get a better understanding of yourself. Perhaps you're feeling unsettled due to bereavement, separation, or health issues. Maybe you're feeling anxiety or stress. Well done for admitting that things aren't quite right and for starting your journey to bring back control. Counselling can provide a confidential space to bring clarity and order to your thoughts.

As an Asian women myself I understand the cultural challenges of living in a Western culture.
We all need help from time to time, and you shouldn't be embarrassed for asking for it. I am a down to earth and compassionate person, who understands what it is like to need a boost. In my years I have truly heard it all, and my biggest goal is to empower rather than judge my clients. One of my favourite quotes comes from Marisa Peer who explains that “to be happy you have to make peace with your past, love the present and feel so excited about the future”. No problem is too big to solve and I have witnessed counselling change the lives of so many people and I know I can help change yours too.

As a therapist, I believe our personal experiences have a profound impact on how we perceive and interact with the world around us. We receive messages on how we should live our lives, and we learn to accommodate those messages in hopes to "fit in" with society. As an Asian gay man and being sent to boarding school, I understand the challenges of living authentically while also trying to honour the norms, values, and expectations of the community you come from.

My approach to therapy is culturally-attuned and while I work with all adults, my practice focuses on individuals who are part of the Global Majority (Black, Asian, Brown, dual-heritage, indigenous to the global south, or individuals who have been racialised as “ethnic minorities”).
I provide a space for you to be seen and heard. One where you can explore, be curious, learn more about yourself and importantly, a space for you to just be. Sometimes we all need a warm and safe space to connect with what’s going on, who we are and our hopes and dreams for the future. I hope we can do this together, in a way that feels right to you.

Hello , and thank you for visiting my profile. As a second-generation Muslim psychotherapist with a deep understanding of intercultural dynamics, I specialise in working with Muslim and South Asian clients. While our backgrounds vary, there's often a shared journey shaped by family, religion, and community expectations. Anxiety, depression, low mood and life's challenges affect us all, yet cultural nuances can influence how we perceive and address them. In cross-cultural psychotherapy, I honor the significance of race, ethnicity, religion, and culture, fostering a safe space for healing.

With children and Adolescence I work to support and understand their experiences and stages of development.

My background as a second generation Southeast Asian counsellor contributes to my unique approach; I can understand the feeling of "otherness" which is the feeling of not quite belonging but not being different enough.
Are you feeling bogged down by the world? Are things are getting worse and you know you need help? Maybe you’re trying to find an outlet for the things you’re experiencing. Either way, something is bringing you toward counselling, which has led you here to me. I use the psychodynamic approach in therapy to make sense of your world. I help you connect unconscious behaviours that are unpleasantly shaping or sabotaging your life. By bringing awareness to it, you can make sense of it to create real changes. Some of these unpleasant things can show up in the form of explosive anger, panic attacks, or even avoidant behaviours.

Coming to therapy, wanting to understand yourself, is a deeply vulnerable and brave thing to do. Life can be demanding and fast-paced and I think therapy can be a place that offers the opportunity to slow it down, connect with what our bodies are telling us and process difficult emotions or experiences. People come to therapy for a myriad of reasons and I have worked with a broad range of concerns and issues. Whatever it is that brings you to therapy, I offer a warm and compassionate space to explore. Therapy can offer a space to untangle and understand who we are and the opportunity to live more peacefully.

There are times in our lives when we're not OK, when we believe that no one understands our struggles, that we alone should fix them, or that things will never change. But it needn't be like this. I specialise in supporting people experiencing: various forms of anxiety (including social, health, stress, work-place) • low-mood and depression • effects of trauma • low self-esteem • addictions and substance dependency • relationship issues. I can help change your limiting thoughts, feelings and behaviours so that you can make sense of your past experiences, find new perspectives, cope with present struggles, and regain your confidence.

Asian Counsellors

Why is it important for a therapist to be culturally sensitive?

A culturally sensitive therapist would be respectful and considerate of different groups, with regard to race, sexual orientation, gender, and other factors that are important to an individual. These considerations can help a client feel understood as well as validated. While some people think highlighting race could promote stereotypes and bias, more understanding and knowledge about cultural differences is a positive for a healthy therapeutic alliance.

How can I recognise an effective Asian therapist?

You can discern a lot by asking how familiar the potential therapist is with different cultures, as well as asking how they might address issues related to identity, values, and beliefs. Also inquire about their education, as well as any particular training they may have completed, such as cultural sensitivity or diversity and inclusion programs.

What if the therapist does not have my exact background?

The therapist may not share a client’s exact background, but the therapist may have plenty of hands-on experience as well as the sensitivity needed for therapeutic progress. Their sensitivity to different populations will help the client feel accepted and comfortable in sharing their concerns and difficulties.

How might I inquire about a therapist's experience with Asian clients?

A therapist with an Asian background may have experience within their community, as well as broader cultural sensitivity. Ask the potential therapist whether they've worked with individuals who share your background. If they have not worked with similar clients, they may well know someone who has such experience.

Who is included in Psychology Today's directory of Asian therapists?

The directory of Asian therapists includes professionals who have shared their ethnicity in their profiles. Psychology Today uses this information to assist clients in finding a therapist who can provide a cultural match. However, not all therapists choose to disclose their ethnicity in their profiles, and they may not appear in search results for this reason; also, when the number of therapists identified as Asian is limited, the directory will also show therapists with comprehensive experience working with clients from relevant backgrounds.
