Life feels hectic and busy most of the time. I'm sure at some point in the past we have all wished for a quiet moment to reboot our busy lives. So why is it so hard to make that happen? There are so many pressures we put on ourselves and the way we go about life..... if you need a neutral, supporting person to talk these feelings through with, or even some support in seeing things in a different way... I'm here! Friendly, enthusiastic and very supportive. No ones circumstances are the same and no one answer is right. We could find a new way of coping together to help you find the way to adjust to life today and going forward.

With 20 years' experience, I am a leading authority in marriage, couple and relationship counselling. I have had the pleasure and privilege of helping countless couples resolve their differences and re-establish an emotional connection. I am passionate about my work and the changes I help to facilitate. When you’re having a relationship or marital problems, it’s natural to want to talk about it. Unfortunately, turning to those around you isn’t always possible or the best option. What you really need is an independent ear — someone who can view your relationship without bias and who won’t take sides.

As an Art psychotherapist I recognise that there is many creative ways to explore and reach your therapeutic aims.
I work with whatever my clients bring into the therapy room and have a particular interest in personal identities and how my clients wish to be seen and accepted in the world. This includes identities around chronic illness and disability, as well as around gender, sexuality and relationship diversity. I do not work as a blank mirror but instead use my knowledge and training to create a dialogue between me and my clients.

Counselling is non-judgmental, does not tell you what to do, but it encourages you to seek out your own choices in life to become complete. There are many different therapeutic tools to help a person to communicate emotions, we can use creative materials, sand and art when verbal communication is tricky. I offer counselling face to face and online: via Zoom, WhatsApp, and FaceTime platforms, in English and Portuguese languages.

Art Therapy utilises the creation of artwork during the session as a means to discuss deeper feelings and concerns within a safe and confidential relationship.
I work with individuals aged 12 and up at the moment. You may have issues with anxiety or trauma and are looking for ways to regulate yourself and work through the trauma. There may be attachment issues established in childhood that have been unhelpful in adulthood. Perhaps you require a confidential place to process distressing things you have experienced, or somewhere to take ownership of your story and change your narrative.

I work face to face and online, and offer creative interventions including art and sand tray.
We all go through periods in our lives when things are more difficult for us and sometimes, we can get a bit stuck in our ways of being and thinking. It may be helpful to talk to someone outside your circle of family and friends, in a confidential space about whatever is troubling you and to find ways forward out of that ‘stuckness’. Counselling can help to identify your strengths and resources, find new perspectives and develop new skills. I will work with you to identify and clarify the difficulties you are experiencing and together we will seek ways forward which best suit you.

Hello, I'm Kirsti Willis - an autistic HCPC registered Art Psychotherapist and a member of BAAT. I currently offer neuro affirming counselling/art psychotherapy to ND people. As a neurodivergent person you can often feel overwhelmed with anxiety and worry. This can make you feel isolated, and a low in self-esteem, as well as in mood. You may also be traumatised. However, any situation can be changed with the right support. Together we can work, for example, toward you being happier and functioning better at work and/or in relationships. I also offer relationship counselling (where one or more in the relationship are neurodivergent)

In your Art Therapy sessions you may want to use art materials to explore the issues you face, or you may just want to speak, or do both.
Life can be challenging, sometimes we need extra support to navigate the circumstances we are in. Therapy can be about understanding the difficult emotions we feel, which could be there for a variety of reasons. It can also be a place to understand your past and present circumstances. I work with people who are wanting to understand themselves, their feelings and who are wanting to make a change in their life. What's most important to me is understanding what you need from therapy and working towards that goal together.

Art Therapy is an effective way to address personal challenges and develop self understanding, confidence and compassion. It is suitable for all ages and abilities and no art skills are needed to engage with the process. I encourage clients to make use of the materials provided during sessions which can help to externalise and visualise emotions which can be difficult or impossible to express in words. This can enable clients to reflect and process things which they may not even be aware are holding them back.

Children and teenagers can benefit from counselling therapies, and studies show that these are hugely effective, both in the short and long term. For older kids and teens, talking therapy can provide a unique space to safely explore what's going on to make them sad, angry, or anxious. For younger children, using play and art, as well as talking therapy, can help them begin to piece together things that might be difficult for them. Life doesn't always go according to plan, and sometimes things happen that no one is prepared for - an accident, a traumatic experience, a situation no one could have foreseen happening.

I am an experienced counsellor working with people of all ages, to help them towards finding a more fulfilling way of life. I know it is a big step to reach out and seek support. Whether you struggle with, anxiety, depression, self-esteem or any other issues, therapy can help - it is an opportunity to learn more about yourself and get support in living a life that aligns more closely with what is important to you.

You don’t need to be good at art to engage in art therapy, I will gently invite you to use art materials in our sessions, with the awareness that creativity might be sometimes challenging to embrace, but you’ll decide in each session if it’s more useful for you just to talk or to make some art as well.
In a society where individualism, competition and oppression of what is different are dominant, it is hard to find ways for our lives to unfold in expressive and mutually empowering relationship with fellow humans and more than human beings. The relational issues passed through generations that had a traumatic impact on our upbringing, the difficulties related to changes and challenges we encounter throughout our lives, the fear that comes with the uncertainty of an unpredictable future, can be addressed through therapy so that we can bring more joy, ease and agency into our lives.

How does art therapy work?

The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.

Does art therapy help with trauma?

Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.

How long does art therapy last?

The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.

What are the limitations of art therapy?

Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioural therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
