Have you found it difficult to engage in traditional therapy? Do the expectations attached to room based therapy, where we sit face to face, feel overwhelming? We try and work slightly differently to help build a space that feels comfortable for you. We are a neurodivergence affirming, trauma informed practice, and some of are staff are also neurodivergent. We strive to be anti-ableist, antiracist, in support of gender and sexual diversity, and against discrimination in all its forms.

For your children, play and art therapies can enable self-expression in ways that talking may not.
I trained as a person-centred counsellor, which simply means our sessions are all about you. I’d like to welcome you to a confidential and non-judgemental safe space where you can talk freely to explore your inner-self. Together, we can discover any underlying issues behind the difficulties you are experiencing and by overcoming the ghosts of your past, you will be in a better place to move forward with your life.Having counselling enables you to rediscover yourself in a safe place, where you can go at your own pace and allow yourself to release your true emotions that you may have locked away.

As a Creative Arts Therapist I can help your child and or teenager to express themselves, at their own pace, through the use of art, play, clay, sand tray and other therapeutic interventions, which can have a profound effect for resolving difficult issues.
Hello, my name is Cara, I’m a Creative Arts Therapist and I am guessing you are here because you're worried about a child or teenager in your life. Maybe your child/teenager is acting out and you just don’t know what to do next, maybe they’ve been through a difficult experience recently or in the past and need some help processing what happened to them. I’ve worked with many children and I want to be able to offer your child a safe and confidential environment to explore what is going on for them right now They can then begin to feel better about themselves and continue to have the positive experiences from life that they deserve.

Hello and welcome! I am a Chartered Counselling Psychologist and for over a decade I have helped adults, couples and children understand themselves more clearly and live more authentic and happier lives. I am passionate about helping clients develop their self concept and overcome self doubt. At certain points in our lives we feel lost and unsure of our purpose. We forget what brings us joy or the barriers to get there feel too big. Perhaps you have felt this way for a long time or it is following a particular incident in your life. We may feel unable to live the life we want because of fear, anxiety or trauma symptoms.

Talking through personal feelings and experiences, with someone you trust not to judge, allows healing, acceptance, self care and awareness develop. Some may need to explore early years experiences to better understand the impact early experiences may have had. Others may want to start with understanding themselves in current relationships with others. It may be certain anxiety triggers or behaviours that someone may want to work through, or a general sense of low mood and lack of motivation. Each person is unique and accessing support can feel like a big step.

How does art therapy work?

The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.

Does art therapy help with trauma?

Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.

How long does art therapy last?

The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.

What are the limitations of art therapy?

Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioural therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
